V6 Misfire when wet

Featured Replies

I have been having issues with a misfire for around 9 months now. I can go for months without any issues at all, but with the recent weather I have realised that the rain might be causing this. The car was running fine the other day, then I cut a corner a little bit and there was a puddle, this caused the car to immediately misfire. I drove for about 1/4 mile stopped the engine and started again and it was fine. This morning I went out in the rain and again the misfire was present, this time the engine was cold and I don't think I went through any standing water this time either.

I replaced the MAF about a month ago and since then, the engine has been running well, I had hoped that this had cured the misfire, but it hasn't!

Any suggestions please?

ps. it's a 2001 V6 4Motion Golf with about 75k on the clock.

My last Fabia didn't like the rain - obviously not a V6 but I believe it was a crank position sensor that was broken (and I guess water got in somehow). Have you had it scanned for fault codes?

I haven't yet. I have had an offer from Cheezemonkhai on here, but we didn't manage to actually get together as he was busy then I was ill IIRC! Anyone around in Portsmouth this week?? :D Please?

I'm bringing my cable into work tomorrow for a colleague (assuming I remember), so if you can get around either at lunch time I'll scan it for you.
