Recently since it has been wet I have been wheel spinning far too much than desired when pulling away in 1st and when putting my foot down in 2nd, such that I struggle to pull away from other cars like normal. Is this because my vrs has too much power for front wheel drive, is it my Tyres, or is it my driving?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Also my car judders whilst idle, is this a misfire problem? Vag com shows no fault codes!

However I am not revving hard before I drop the clutch. Any idea on the misfire?

Could be poor tyres, coupled with lots of power and heavy right foot, plus you get a lot of wheel hop on the stock vrs setup which further reduces traction.

A dog bone mount upgrade should help this greatly.

"Is it my tyres?" - Big clue; we need to know what make of tyres you're running, and how worn they are. I get the ASR firing much more often on a wet road when the tyres are worn to under 3mm remaining (Toyo T1-R).

Also, are the pressures correct for the size you're running, since this may have an effect?

And "are the ASR and ABS working correctly?" You may need a VCDS to check this.

The mention of a judder at idle makes me wonder if you may have a worn engine or gearbox mounting (quite possibly the top mount).

Worn front shocks could play a part in this as well.

It's your tyres, or suspension. Assuming your vRS is stock or near stock. My remapped vRS in the wet, with very worn tyres I'm about to replace, doesn't have any traction problems. On a wet road in 2nd gear I can go WOT from say 1500rpm and she pulls cleanly to the red line without losing traction.

I have the same issue with wet weather grip

Wet roads are a bit of an issue with my car, I put it down to the cheapo front tyres fitted by a previous owner. Its fine in the dry but as soon as it gets wet, it just will not put the power down cleanly sometimes, even on half throttle in 1st and 2nd gears.

I have just adapted my driving style to be very smooth and progressive in the wet.

Have it looked at but I have heard/read a lot of reviews stating this car hasnt got the chassis set up for 180 BHP, this coupled with plasticly tyres means you just need to take it a bit easier.

My previous fabia had no issues in the wet and that had more torque and was always fitted with decent rubber.

I say rubber, but happy to be wrong. :-)

My remapped car can get the traction light flickering slightly in the dry. My tyres aren't the best mind :giggle:

It should break traction in 2nd, mine certainly does anyway.

Just checked and they are prosport on the front and linglong on the back, 205/50/17. I've never heard of either makes to be honest, guess the previous owner was a cheap skate?

The wheels look fairly new and an old lady was the previous owner but couldn't handle the size and speed.

The car has done 97k and vagcom brings up no fault codes.

Ok, what Tyres would you recommend then? I assume I am running the correct size as mentioned above.

Anyone else with ideas of the juddering whilst idle?

I'm using P-Zero Rosso Aysmmetrics, not cheap and don't last all that long, but boy do they hold the road well! I thought the Goodyear Eagle F1's I had on before were good but these are on a whole other level.

Try a throttle body clean for the idle problems, my car on 95k occasionally struggled at idle with the revs dipping to the point where i thought the car may stall.

With this i had the infamous 17705 error code and another 17*** something code, all have dissapeared with the throttle body clean and new gasket which cost £2 from the dealers.

The throttle body was filthy before a clean.

toyo t1r for ultimate grip but do a search on tyre choices there are a good few to choose from for various applications

Ive just replaced my proxes4 as the car would wheel spin at motorway speed in 4th! My wife wouldn't drive it so ive now fitted bridgestone potenza's and ive no issues wet or dry.

You want a premium/high-performance tyre for this car. So when you're on manufacturers websites, be sure to go for those ranges. The standard tyres fitted to the car are 205/50R17 89W. All the tyres I've ever bought for the car are extra load (XL 93W) versions of that size.

Avon ZV3, ZV5 and ZZ3's are all good. Kumho KU31's are also great for the money. Continental ContiSportContact and Dunlop SP Sport 3000 are standard fit tyres from the factory, but are obviously old designs now. Just search around for good reviews online if you're unsure.

Rough idle could be a vacuum leak from a number of hoses, or a grotty throttle body.

The tyres you have on are useless! I'd get them all changed before the winter, because the cold/wet weather tends to highlight the shortfalls of cheapo tyres. Understeering off into a kerb will be expensive....
