BANG! - wtf was that

Featured Replies

*Same post as on TA*

Yeah exactly what i thought until i turned around and noticed that my rear window had just cracked and smashed into a million peices for no reason :thumbdwn:

Its odd because i was just chilling in the car outside the pub waiting for my friends to pitch up and it just smashed

But its all good i thought at least its still in one piece so i got out to look at it and closed the door behind me (as you do) and it all caved in

So i get the feeling that it will be an expensive trip to the garage tomorrow morning

   For me, it took a major impact with some Welsh tarmac to blow out my rear screen. Sounds like something wasn't fitted right in your case!

more likely shot out with an air rifle by kids... very common thing these days.. esp around pubs/ macDs

 Sounds fishy to me too. I mean screens don't just smash on their own do they...

There weren't any houses around, it was outside a local pub

Did you have the rear window heater on? there was a recall with smart cars + others coz the glass would shatter with the heat.. its possible if the heater was on and the window wasnt correctly fitted

Yeah it was on actually

Have you wired your audio into the rear screen elements by mistake? 1000w RMS isn't good for those tiny thin bits of wire. :P ;):D

Mate, your thread just gave me a serious case of de ja vous, about a week ago my car was parked on the road outside a pub in the village i live in...

I unlocked the car with my key remote, and when my passenger got in and shut her door the rear window collapsed all over the back shelf/seat!

Its a bit of a mystery really, but we are blaming it on a gritting truck that just went past and would have been quite close to my car as it was spreading. I sort of hope it was that, a design fault would be more of a pain.

I phoned skoda the next day and they just told me to call my insurance company and find out which glass firm they use, it turned out to be Autoglass. They had to order a screen overnight and fitted it the next day. The guy did a good job and hoovered up most of the glass (which gets bloody everywhere), although i was surprised it took him almost 2 hours...i thought it would be easier for some reason.

Good luck. By the way, if your car is a vrs like mine is, make sure the glass people know it has a light green tint.

Lol Devonutopia, nope the amps not in yet

Goodas - how much did the screen cost to replace? No idea if the Classic comes with a tint but now might be the time it did ;).

Took a day to order

I noticed on the receipt that the screen is about
