Filler Cap - intermittent...

Featured Replies

Guys, I have Superb mk1, 1.9tdi 130. (2002)

On the day of picking it up, I thought I'd fill it up....petrol cap wouldn't open. Took it back to place I bought it from and he swore he put a tenner in for me before i picked it up. He tried and eventually it open, but by only continually trying the switch (in the door).

he said he would fix it, but not on that day as it was a Saturday. also, i live an hour away. So,. he has told me i can take it into a local and if the cost is reasonable, he will authorise it, or i can bring it back in.

He seems to think its the switch, or the solenoid...

I won' get a chance to have it looked at until the weekend, but car says I've got 650 miles left, so i think I'll be fine til then.

However, in the meantime, any suggestions?

(AA guys has inspected and new about the water ingress problem. Carpets are all fine and all other electrics in the car work perfectly.)

Thanks

Sy

(ps - even thought the manual doesn't say so in the obvious place, i am aware there is an #emergency' access to the filler cap)

Undo the battery for 30 minutes, it might clear itself.

Cheers. Will try that. Will that have an effect on anything else? I mean by disconnecting the battery? Alarm?!, etc?

You'll need to re-prog the windows and wait for the radio to find the code, only takes a few minutes iirc, and the windows is simply hold the button fully closed for 20 seconds on each button.

Ok, will try that this week. Is that a know fix for this issue, or just 'it might work' type thing?

Also, I've noticed that my parking sensors are intermittent. I thought it was because ha couple had 'popped' out of their holes. But I've put them back in and still the same.

When they, they work good. But sometimes when I put it into reverse, I get a short beep, then a long beep. After a short silence, the same again. I could drive normally a bit and try the reverse again, and it'd work fine! Could this be fixed by unplugging the battery too?

(All the interior and puddle mirror lights work fine as do the other electrics).

Thanks for your help.

VAG cars have little gremlin's, and the first thing to do is to re-boot the ecu by taking the battery off for a while, it doesn't always work, but it's always worth a try.
