Consumptions of Skoda Yeti 1.8 Tsi and behaviour

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, i hope i´m on the rigt place for clarify my doubt about consumpion of a koda yeti with 1.8 tsi and his behaviour.

I´m on a process to buy a Skoda Yeti 1.8 Tsi but i´m a diesel user (at the moment) and i´m not chossing this car by his economicals but i´m cuirious about is performances.

Consumptions are like brand advertising?

I know when the cars are new the engine have high values but if anybody could tell the experience with one of this TSI engines.

I hope my english is perceptible.

Thanks

When driving around town I get around 20-25 mpg, out on the motorway around 35 mpg (6.7 l/100 km?) - that's without trying too hard.

The engine still has less than 2000 miles on it, so it's still running in really. I'm noticing that the economy seems to be slowly improving as it's being driven more.

Hello Ricardo and welcome to the forum.

My figures are very similar to 'ginandtonics' but Ive never seen as low as 20mpg when pushing around town. Id say the lowest ive seen is 23mpg but more likely 26 around town and around 35mpg on a longer run. I do drive with a heavy right foot once its appropriate and the engine is fully warmed up.

I now have just over 6,000 miles on the clock and in August it completed a 3,000 mile trip around Spain. Iirc it achieved a high of 40+mpg but that was at a steady 50mph in sixth gear and the overall trip average was just shy of 33mpg. That 33mpg is a good average imo considering the hill/mountainous area we stayed around and the fact that the A/C was working overtime almost all of the time we were there. Report here:

Yeti takes on Spain.

If you are used to a diesel then the initial fuel indicator may be a shock to the system but work the cost of ownership out over a period of time and you realise you really have to be doing higher than average annual mileages to recoup the cost differences.

For comparison purposes, I use a Fiesta 1.6 TDCi for the daily commute. Its two years old now and has covered nearly 30,000 miles. Its average fuel consumption since new is 49.5 and when it ever does see a motorway then it'll settle around 65-67mpg after a run! So my initial thought when I jump back into the Yeti is 'oh, its only doing half the mpg!'. Then I drive it and realise that any cost difference in filling up is worth the silky smoothness and refinement that the engine gives as well as the benefit of diesel like driving characteristics down low. I know other diesel lovers disagree with this view but Im very happy with the choice of my 1.8TSi Yeti.

My annual milage has dropped from 30k per year to maybe around 12-15k now since I ordered my diesel DSG. I would be tempted by a petrol 1.8tsi or 2.0 tsi if available with DSG, but I would miss that mid range grunt the diesel has.

Your English is far better than my Portugese !

Generally on mixed use - city/open road/motorway- I'm getting about 33 mpg which is about 11,7 km/lit.

My snowmonster's behaviour is always impeccable.

His engine is free reving up to the red line with lots of smooth power, acceleration I find is quick enough and surprises many Audi and BMW drivers. The steering is responsive and the cars handling is very nimble.

My last car was a VRs Octavia 1.8 Turbo which I found in comparison to be a little heavy and slow witted although fast on a motorway. Petrol consumption with similar use was 29 mpg.

I agree with FocusZtec and ginandtonic, but rockhoppers liking of midrange diseal grunt is out of place when you have 5.5k rpm range of smooth power and flexibility with the TSI :):)

Don't do it! Take the diesel, although apparently even that is nowhere near the brochure claims.

Skoda's claimed economy figures seem to be optimistic at best. I also get 20-25 urban and certainly not the 28 claimed, and on a motorway at 70mph I get 34mpg at best. It's actually frightening me and much much worse than I expected.

I can't reach 28mpg on urban cycles even when driving with my gentle feet. I'd have to be freewheeling downhill to get that.

Wow! Holy eight month old thread revival batman! :giggle:

My 1.8TSi consumption has just got better and better. It's now approaching 16k miles and im seeing 32mpg on the daily commute and over 40 when im more gentle! Yesterday, I achieved 39.5mpg on a trip to see Johann (90000) and this included a good few blats! However mine has it's oil and filter changed every 5-6k and has a Shark Performance remap also so either of those things could be having an influence I guess? :)

Norstar,

no one ever gets the figures published by the manufacturers, whatever make of car they drive. You won't and can't because their figures are obtained under near laboratory conditions. It is a common complaint and has been broadcast widely, so I don't why you are surprised about it. The only use I can see of them is that it gives a rough comparison between models.

Actually, I've ALWAYS obtained a lower consumption than the manufacturer claims, including the wife's Fabia which gets at least 0.5l/100km less. Most of Europe isn't congested like the UK - no rush "hour", better roads, fewer cars, etc - so the "lab conditions" test is probably a reasonable one. I love coming back to the UK, but as soon as we got off the boat we spent the next HOUR in traffic crossing the town to get to the motorway - a journey which should have taken ten minutes. Even my son asked "why are we all in a line" - never having seen a traffic jam before!

The biggest problem for Yeti purchasers in Europe is that the 170 diesel is around 6.000 euros more than the 1.8TSi - even the 110 diesel is 2.000 euros more than the 1.8, depending where you are. Even with petrol 10c more expensive than diesel, the break-even for the 170 is at least 150.000km or almost 100,000 miles, by which time a worn DFP, injectors, or balancer drive system could ruin that calculation.

I'm about to order a petrol myself, not buying the diesel will buy my first 55.000km worth of petrol so I'm happy...

Mike you need to get a spin in FocusZtec's 1,8... believe me there is NO loss of midrange grunt!!!!!!! It will give your chipped DSG a clean pair of heals without a sweat at ANY speed. It is SUPER fast that car!

BUT I'd only want a 1,8 if they make it in DSG. Once you've had a DSG you certainly can't go back to a manual.

Agreed.

If they did a 1.8tsi Yeti with the DSG box I'd trade the wife's 1.2 DSG in tomorrow.

I want a 1.8TSI model with DSG too.

Me too !! :)

Me too, both on the Yeti and pretty much all my previous cars.
