Electric windows

Featured Replies

Hi, ive been lookin for ages now for the parts to convert my manual windows to electric, however i have had no luck, nothing on ebay or breakers and its getting annoying.

So does anyone happen to be breaking a car with these parts or someone know where there are some?

Another thought, do skoda dealers have the parts brand new? regulators, motors and switches etc

Any info would be great!

you can still get the parts from the dealer but they are prohibitively expensive. a window regulator is about £70 each, the motors are about £100 each.. you are far better off holding out till one pops up in a breakers yard, you will need the door wiring looms too, plus you will need the centre console and swiitches from the leccy window model

Nothing on eBay you say? ;)

If this listing is to be believed, that guy should have all the necessary bits. In addition to the door and centre console bits Tom mentions, you may well need to swap the accessory loom as well to be able to connect it all up.

It's probably also worth considering one of the generic aftermarket kits, which could end up being cheaper and easier to fit than original Skoda parts - at least that way you'd probably be free to fit the switches in the doors, rather than having to fumble down between the seats to open a window.

For UK cars, to the best of my knowledge, electric windows were only fitted to L&K and Magic editions (as standard). Magics are relatively common, and you've almost certainly got a better chance of finding one than I have of another SLXi to figure out my aircon-related niggles.

^^ and classic's im pretty sure?

Bohemias too - i got mine in the rally car from one i broke.

correct, at least according to parkers:

Estate....

Hatch.....

Strangely though, it too shows the non-existant boot light as a standard feature of my model.....

 I had a nagging feeling there was another pre-facelift model I'd forgotten - Bohemia indeed! I've only ever seen Classics with manual windows - given that it was the 'standard' specification after the Felicia range was slimmed down to make way for the Fabia, I'd be a little surprised if any had e/w, unless by then the VW influence had gone as far as offering optional equipment rather than dozens of short-lived special editions.

Dan - I'll have to see if I can find you a boot light on my next scrapyard expedition. I'd give you mine, but I'm quite fond of it :D

I wouldn't mind, 'cept for the fact i can't even find the wiring for it in the loom.

Given that your car should technically be identical to mine here (the SLXi is a GLX body with ABS and aircon shoved in), the lamp feed is a black and brown wire coming out of the bundle for the n/s taillight connector. The switch itself, for no obvious reason, lives somewhere in the tailgate lock mechanism (oddly, my 1998 handbook still refers to the older style boot light which has a manual switch and only works if the sidelights are on). If both of those connections are missing I suspect you've somehow got something that wasn't properly built as a UK spec GLX.

Ahhh, now i see the problem. Whilst i have no boot light fitted, i do have a factory fitted towbar (was an optional extra according to the original owner). Guess where the power feed for the trailer taillights comes from :giggle:

As does my 1999 manual.

Where in the boot is the light supposed to be on an estate anyway?

Same place as on a hatchback (on my mum's '97 one anyway)

which is? :wonder:

(Yep, this is my first felicia, so no idea where it would be in a hatch, either. ;) )

^^^ except pointing down, rather than sideways.

Edit: simultaneous posting ahoy! I was of course referencing djaychela's post - on the hatchback, the C-pillar is wider and it doesn't have the 'shelf' the estate has under the window, so the light is on the side panel underneath where the back of the parcel shelf kicks up.

And again: looks like earlier estates may have had it mounted almost exactly the same as the hatch - where part 20 is in this diagram: http://www.feliciaklub.dk/parts/index.php?sub=112&cat=5. Of course, it may well be that on the production line they just cut a hole and shoved 'em in somewhere in that general vicinity :giggle:

Thank'ee kindly robin. that picture was most helpful.

Had a slightly closer inspection of that corner of the boot, and the wiring earlier, and realised rather quickly that the reason i couldnt find the light was because it wasn't there. Or rather, the hole had been cunningly covered over with grey plasticard....that was fixed in with silicon sealant (again. i'm begining to hate the stuff :wonder : ).

Ah, methinks, yet another brilliant bodge. Having removed the plasticard plug, and peeled away huge amounts of silicon, there was the light fitting stuffed away behind it.

So why was it bodged in such a fashion?

simply because the bulb was blown.........30 secs and a new bulb later, i now have a working light.

Thanks for that ebay link RobinSLXi, i contacted the person and they have taken out all the parts that you lot said and should be posting them tomorrow, got all the parts for the front doors for £95.

If they come in time i shall attempt to fit them the weekend, one question though would i use the original window guides or use the ones that the motor and that come with?

Any other advice would be great!

When I swapped mine over on the rally car I just used the electric regulator - the guides were the same on the mech windows.

Reviving this very very old thread.

I've been the owner of a 2000 Felicia pickup for about 3 weeks now,

I've got the chance of the electric mirrors and windows from a mk2 caddy. All the wiring, switches, regulators, door cards, the lot, I think!

Question is will this fit the Felicia pickup?

Thanks

No problem, digging in old threads is very good!

Is something wrong with yours? I have changed the window mechanisms in all my windows but the mechanics never told me to fit from another car.

Caddy pickup or caddy van? The Pickup is just rebranded Felicia, so it'll fit, but the Van is based on Seat Ibiza, so the mechanism Is different.

Sorry for slow reply. I've been in an internet dead zone.

D.FYLAKTOS, no nothing wrong with what I've got. But window is winders and mirrors are manual, so I fancied making them a bit more modern!

Papez, Damn it! It's from a van I think but I'll double check. I've been doing a bit of googling since I found them and feared they wouldn't fit. Hence me checking here first before parting with my cash!

Is it not an Inca the van is based on?? Still learning lol 👍

Yes, it is a rebranded Inca, but Inca is derived from Ibiza :) Up to the B-pillar, they're nearly identical, just like Felicia/Pickup

Why bother, more to wire up and more to go wrong, how often do you adjust door mirrors and you can probably wind the passenger window from the driver's seat.  It annoys me that I need the keys and ignition on to lower or raise the windows on my wife's Fabia, my car I just open one door and do both windows, no farting about having to get the keys, or getting into a hot cabin.

All that extra weight to loose power and mpg on, and the drain on the battery and making the alternator work harder and wear out quicker. 😉

You don't need to turn the ignition on to move windows on the Fabia. All windows can be rolled up/down from the outside by holding the key in lock/unlock position. As long as the microswitch in the lock works 😀

As long as the motor's have automatic functions to roll up/down, it's definitely worth it.

Sorry I should have put 2015 Fabia Mk3, you definitely need the ignition on to operate the electric windows I can assure you of this as it annoys me every time I've not got the key with me.  I often just lower the rear windows as they operate by a plastic hand crank handles.

See extract from the Driver's Handbook (Owner's Manual) below for conformation.

Her previous car you could hold the lock button on the remote and the electric windows would close - but I don't know I've ever had or thought about a car where you can lower the windows with a button on the remote.

I wasn't being too serious with my post and I'm sure if Neilswheels wants electric windows and mirrors he'll take no notice of my post but I do wonder if fitting them might involve some extra work and wiring - but wouldn't know - I would thoroughly test the mirrors, motors and switches before starting though.

Wow, it's serious downgrade then, because that function was present in MK1 and MK2. Does it at least have one-touch rollup/rolldown?

Yes, Felicia's Windows do require some extra wiring, but for example mirror switch can use the same power input as windows. And windows are at least smart enough to have one touch rolling and do work for some time after ignition is switched off.
