Alarm advice

Featured Replies

I'd like an alarm fitting to my Octavia and if possible I'd like it to operate from the standard key fob like the factory fit one on my golf did. Any help and advice would be really appreciated.

A guy I was speaking to said anything that used the standard key fob cannot be classed as a cat 1, this is because it can still be disabled by sticking a screw driver through the look short circuiting the alarm, or something along those lines.

So how do manufacturers get round that if you buy a car that already comes with a Cat 1 system? Afaik aslong as the alarm is fitted by a thatcham qualified fitter and the car already has an immobilisor (cat2) then it is upgraded to CAt1. Whether or not it is operated by oem or a separate keyfob makes no difference. I had an Autowatch alarm fitted to the octy which worked off the original keyfob (Cat 1) but I wanted better versatility so I upgraded the system to a Clifford G5 650 with wizzard. It has a separate key fob but that works with central locking. Alarms have a nasty habit of giving off 'false alarms' and I didn't want to open and then close my car just for the sake of resetting it ;) which I had to do with the Autowatch alarm as you will with one that works off the oem keyfob.

Ive got a cat 1 Toad alarm, works off standard keyfob.

My dealer got an alarm guy in to fit it for me before i collected the car.
