Build Date to Delivery

Gp001 I'm just entering that part of the delivery stage now. Reading between the lines you've ordered through DTD as I did I will let you know what happens.

Mines currently built but I think, waiting for a ship? I'll pester the dealer for an update next week.

Fingers crossed that my SM is on Thames Highway. Left Emden this evening heading for Sheerness. There seems to be more capacity on this ship so hopes starting to rise once again.

Just been on to my dealer to check that my build week is still 48 and he tells me that my car has no build week now showing at all on the system! AAAARGH! He says he's sure it will still be an early December build but I'm now really worried given other threads that talk about shortages of 170 engines, massive order backlogs throughout Europe etc., etc. I know it will be worth the wait, but what a business!

Well here is the answer.

Arrived at Sheerness (courtesy of Thames Highway) 27-10-2010

Due to arrive at dealership on Monday 01-11-2010

And best of all ......... hoping to collect 04-11-2010

The excitement is growing!

Well snap. (In all respects except collection date hopefully Wednesday 3rd for me).

Wonder if it's total coincidence that both are 170's - could there have been a batch build in Wk41? Or perhaps it's just that TH is a substantially larger vessel than several of the other Highways and so scooped up quite a few Yetis (and presumably other Skoda/VW vehicles)

If that is so, why has my 170 disappeared from the system? What about Coopers timescale (posts #22 and #24 in this thread) - does he have any confirmation/update?

My spec is near identical to Coopers, although I ordered 1 build week later (38). As of 4 days ago it was showing delivery around week 6 or mid Feb which is pretty much as expected. I guess it's just possible that Coopers vehicle precisely matches a cancelled order so could get it a bit sooner than expected. Or it could be over optimism? Either way not sure why yours is off the system but more than likely **** up rather than conspiracy - no doubt you'll keep pressing the dealer for an update mind....

Well that makes two happy bunnies on here.

I don't know how builds are determined at the factory, whether they're in batches relating to engine size, left/right hand drive?

I was getting a bit worried when the shortage of the 170 engine was muted on here, I don't know if this is the case or not?

I didn't realize until today that Skoda offer 7 days complimentary insurance on new vehicles, so that makes life a little easier changing over vehicles.

Train tickets are booked so I hope this last leg of the journey continues as smoothly as that which has gone before.

I hope you have a pleasant experience on Wednesday and a safe journey home.

I hope you have a pleasant experience on Wednesday and a safe journey home.

And likewise. But the journey home is actually only about a mile for me, so yes I'm particularly hoping that there won't be any mishaps on this stretch - only major obstacle is just one roundabout to cross the A10, but don't worry - I'll approach it very carefullyemoticon-0136-giggle.gif .

I had looked seriously at buying from dealers much further afield and was close to doing so. DtD was another real contender also.

But at the last minute of quite a prolonged process of indecision about exactly which engine to opt for (1.8TSi or CR170), my - very - local dealer came up on the rails and offered a price within about 2% of the best DtD price. Yes it was still a few £100's of price difference (on a CR170 with Columbus, PA etc); but the extra convenience of having the original supplier so close plus supporting an independent local business in this semi-rural area won me over in the end.

My local dealers couldn't/wouldn't get anywhere near DtD and wanted full book for ex-demonstrator without the options I wanted. Price difference about £1500 so decision was made.

200 mile trip home for me so should give us time to get acquainted.

Prodata, Onesque congratulations to both of you hope you enjoy your SM's. I on the other hand have to wait for my wee beastie and if all goes well it won't be long. Happy motoring guys. :-)

Bear in mind that DTD and other brokers sell their vehicles through Skoda dealers.

OK, we're probably talking biggish numbers here - and when I've bought (Golfs) through brokers in the past, my dealings have been with the Fleet Sales team at two well established south coast VW dealerships.

But the fact remains that the 'sale' is actually with a Skoda dealership - I think it all comes down to supply, demand, turnover and dealers 'rules' for retained profit?

I'm afraid like with insurances and energy suppliers we all need to shop around to get the best deal - and of course we need to factor in a 'service' element - which in my case was well worth the £200 my dealer was short of the DTD price.

Folks here seem to rightly value that element quite highly.

Merlinman I would have been more than happy to have paid a small premium to stay local, but there is a limit. I'll just have to start working on that owner/dealer relationship once I get the SM home.

I still have some slight reservations in buying so far away, but I'll just have to see what happens.

The first 'distance purchase' was a little anxious but fine at the outturn!

The deal on my eagerly awaited (Wk 45 build) was made easier following buying 'er indoors Fabia.

It's our 'hard earned' and we can only spend it once!

Good luck!

Today I reached the end of the delivery journey.

I got the train down to London this morning, have collected the Yeti and just driven 200 miles, mostly in the pouring rain.

First impressions, it's brilliant. Driving on the motorway was smooth and quiet I was really impressed.

Only negative is that I haven't quite got my seat adjusted to my liking, I'll work on that tomorrow. Plus it will probably take me most of the week to get everything set up as I like.

Incidently dealer was happy to buy it off me if I didn't like it, believes he would be able to sell it no problem for an extra £2k more than what I paid. No chance.

Trip computer showing 51.8 mpg so more than happy with that.

I'll post more details of my experience in the near future. Off now for a glass of wine and a read of the manual.

Great news!

Not too long for mine now and I've got a special birthday to celebrate before it lands

Haven't got a name but the reg might be a start 'ROBO'

Mine was built on the 22nd Oct and en-route to the port on the Monday, 25th.

Still at the port apparently on the 7th Nov so optimistic that I might collect it on the 20th Nov.

Realistically expecting to collect on the 27th Nov though I guess :(

[EDIT] Aha! Rainworth rang and said it's now on the boat. 20th Nov should be the day :D

Great to read that all you lucky folk are picking up your SM's! I'm really envious!

I have just been told that my SM's build date s WEEK 11 for my 1.2 SE DSG [steel grey with heated window & spare wheel as options].

Does anyone know, or think, that this build date may improve now that we read production is going to be "upped" at the plant from January?

or

Is the build date given to me taken the above fact in to account? I originally ordered at the beginning of October.

Thoughts please

Hi,

initial build dates can come forward or go backwards and even yo-yo, added complication is the DSG option as there very popular thoughout the Skoda range. which is effecting lead times.

Wifes Fabia built in August came forward a week but due to flooding at a suppliers went back to the original week, worth the wait though as with the Monster :)

Regards,

TP
