Performance upgrades

Featured Replies

Hello all im going to be buying a fabia vrs somtime this week and reallly looking forward to it.

I have read nothing but good reviews about them.

Im after some advice on performance mods, i plan to get the car remaped more or less straight away and i have a few £££ extra to spend on a few mods before i do get it remapped. What would be my best options?

Cat back exhaust system?

or

Downpipe and decat?

or

Other?

also is this the correct splitter to fit the fabia?

ordered

and is this the correct strut brace?

wil also be ordering a Jabbasport ARB sometime this week aswell

also peoples recommendations of filters do i go for the green cotton panel filter or get rid of the air box and buy a cone filter? any noticeable difference between the pair?

Have you heard of the whiteline arb? there cheaper and just as good!

People say your best off sticking to the OEM filter and changing it every 10.000

Having had both on my old fabia, and timing laps to test i can confirm the jabba arb is bes, the whiteline one did nothing at all exactly the same lap times as no arb at all!!!!!

I have a strut brace you can have, at a price I think you'll like - PM me if interested...

With regards to the full exhaust system except manifold, with a custom remap any ideas on what kind of bhp/torque will be?

I have had a quick search but can't seem to find anything

Well said Gary

Jabba ARB is the way to go.

what about a pd160 intake and filter?

Yes I have ordered these aswell

Would put on about 900 for the new performance clutch your going to need! Probably do that first all good having the power and handling to go fast but some basic algebra will show you why

F+2P=2T+C

Which translates to fabia with twice performance = more torque which inevitably means adding new clutch.

What kind of power cannthe standard clutch take then around 175bhp isit?

What suspension were you runing?

More the torque than the bhp I had mine remaped to 175bhp then 290 torque that ripped the clutch in two, now I can't say that the clutch wasn't on the way out before I got the remap, it's more of a precaution than a certainty.

Kw v1

...and yet, my map puts out 320lb-ft (albeit only 170bhp due to the way the torque curve's been set) and has been fine on the standard clutch these last 20k miles or so. I glazed it trying to reverse up a ramp in a multi-storey because of not being able to get past a Navara that was sticking miles out from the parking space, but once I'd scrubbed that off it was fine. I'm beginning to suspect that a performance clutch is a 'necessity' in the same way that a new waterpump is 'definitely' required every time you replace the cambelt...

But it's up to you!

And my 350ft lb torque destroyed a spec stage 3+ clutch and a standard clutch!!!!!!

Depends how you drive I guess. Standard clutch and a map is ok, but if your planning bigger turbos etc then you might aswell upgrade the clutch too.

Matt

It all depends on how you treat your car. WOT below 2.5/3K revs will quickly wear out the clutch and possible damage the DMF. But then if you don't what's the point of a remap? If you go custom just ask them to be more kinder on the low down torque.

For the price of a remap and clutch, makes you think just buy an Ibiza cupra PD160.

Wrong number of doors for me, but I see your point! Insuring a standard Group 15 car vs. a modified Group 9 one might be the decider, actually...

Insurance would be the decider. Be interesting to see the difference especially if you consider the brakes, suspension, bigger turbo, fmic.

Just keep the standard map and join IAM or Rospa :)

I'm not sure you have to wait till quite that high up before flooring it, and it is mainly in higher gears.

I do see your point in a way, but a clutch isn't needed for just a sensible map. Also, my girlfriend couldn't insure a cupra for less than £1800, but a remapped fabia way a few hundred quid cheaper. On top of that, erm, I much rather my fabia looks wise than the seat, and having now been in one, the seats interior is awful. However, IF in insurance works out, and all your fussed about is speed then yeah.

Matt

The seat interior is poor isn't it.

I use to get clutch slip when changing at 4krpm from 2nd into 3rd. Revs would drop to around 2.8Krpm and the clutch would slip. That was with a generic 300lbft remap.

Problem you may find is if others drive your car and their not so kind on the clutch.

Not saying don't do it just be aware as clutches including fitting isn't cheap.
