Insurance/Eibachs

Featured Replies

Goodevening all. I was thinking of finally fitting Eibach lowering springs to my vRS. Do I have to inform my insurance company of this and will their be much extra to pay if I do have to inform them?

Thanks,

J

Any modification away from OE spec needs informing, as for an increase that will depend on your insurance company, some will not charge anything extra for a mod that does not make the car quicker but others will refuse to cover you if you have ANY mods.

Thanks for that. I'll give them a call in the morning.

I'm with Adrian flux and they won't let me mod.....my car at all, because of the insurance company they put me with- gutting. But when I supercharged my jdm civic I declared evert mod....and my insurance only went up around £100. Intact what I'm paying now for insurance on the fabia is a bit of a joke for a standard car, when I was paying only a little mor for said civic.

Even putting in leather seats rules out about half the insurers at Gocompare.com and the like...

moneysupermarket allows you to put in your mods I think. Whoever Adrian Flux have me with don't charge extra for cosmetic mods - ie anytihng that does not change performance. Any performance increase will raise the insurance by whatever the percentage of increased power is.

Same here. But I always wonder what their definition of 'performance' is? My coilovers won't increase power, but I'm sure they will have an effect on performance, and aren't solely 'cosmetic' by design or application.

I also told them I was going to put coilovers on, and they told me I already had suspension down on the policy (Which would have been RARB from way back) so it didn't matter. Got them to name it anyway, but seems it's not too specific about 'cosmetic' mods.

The way the woman responded to me on asking was that "performance" is considered in terms of engine performance. There's no real way to quantify handling performance wheras engine performance will have a percentage numerical increase which can be used to calculate the percentage increase in premium. However the tolerance for "cosmetic" mods was not infinite. You still had to declare them and it was at their discression whether they would raise your premium. Usually you nee dto fill in a modifications list detailing the parts used.
