V6 Petrol or TDi?

Featured Replies

Alright guys, I'm looking into getting a new car soon and I've settled on a Superb but I'm undecided wether to get the 2.8 v6 petrol or the 2.5 v6 TDi. I'm hoping you guys could help me out with the pros/cons of both and hopefully aid me in my choice.

Cheers

Chris

I guess a lot depends on if this is a company car and how many miles you do? If you do less than 10k per year, get the petrol. You'll pay more in tax but less (overall) in fuel. If you do more that 20k, get the diesel. Lower tax and better economy.

The above is a rough rule of thumb only. And depends on if you are buying new or second hand.

Well you ain't going to be buying either new they don't make em anymore.

But if you can find one and front the fuel the 2.8 is really nice, also worth peanuts now.

What I meant is new to me not a brand new car lol. Fuel front neither can be as bad as a Skyline, which is what it's going to replace. Are there tuning options for either of them like ecu chips etc?

I was refering the the other post rather than yourself. :)

Not much tuning on either really, remaps for both but you won't ge much out of the 2.8. But the TDi is an old rotary pump unit rather than a

PD or common rail so also limited.

Depends on what you want.

Ah well, tuning the crap out id it really isn't my intension to be honest just asking in case I do get stupid. All I want is something that can do 10 miles without breaking down and does more than 18mpg. I don't do silly miles a year, probably 10k if that.

Is there anything I should look for when I go to view Superb's, any issues their known to have etc?

Probably best have a flick through the superb section and see what comes up. Water ingress being the main one, but it's easily prevented.

As this subject has been discussed a mindless huge amount of times, let me make it easy:

Go for the 1.9 130hp AWX TDI & get it chipped. Better mpg, a lot lower maintenance costs, almost the same 0-60 time and much more reliant. :-)

It don't sound quite as good as a VEE SIX tho' LOL. But yes a lot more economical.

I couldn't agree more -

"Smooth" or "bag of nails" really.

That's true, wont argue on that topic. :-)

Urban use get a 1.9 with a map

Motorway, get a 1.9, but if you need the V6's I'd take the petrol one, you will probably lose 5mpg, but get the car for less and not have all the derv component issue's that comes with an oiler.
