MPG - really interest in 1.2 fuel economy figures compared to mine...

Featured Replies

Hello! I've been enjoying my lovely 1.2 yeti for 6 months now. LOVE IT. However, I'm not that impressed with the fuel economy. It costs around £60 to fill the tank and I'm getting 400 miles to a tank AT BEST (sometimes 375). Was expecting it to do more than that...Anyone else with different figures? Thanks!

That seems low to me as I get that from my 1. Wasn't there a post recently regarding a member having the cam position sensor replaced which made a big improvement to the mpg on his 1.2tsi?

Yes I know you asked about the 1.2!My 140 BHP gives 44/45 MPG on the commute. All my driving is around town. My SM in on 8K.

Hi. We have had our 1.2 DSG Yeti for about six weeks now and completed 700 + miles - Averaging 42.8 mpg. Don't think that is bad considering it was all done on "A" & "B" roads as we have no motorways and not a lot of duel carriageway where we live. (Sunny Norfolk :-)) The car has really loosened up over the last two hundred miles [it goes like a rocket!!!], and I expect that the fuel economy may improve a little even yet.

Did you achieve good mpg on your previous car? [what I am asking as politely as I can is, are you sure about the weight of your right foot] I did the maths on your quoted figures at average fuel prices and you seem to be getting about 35 mpg? Something not quite right there. Ask your dealer to run a diagnostic check and hopefully that will give you the answers you need.......................Hope this helps!....Good Luck!...........................THE GREAT YETI

Hello! My last car was a vw caddy van (1.6 tdi). I was getting 48mpg in that...Can't understand my yeti figures...Could it be something to do with the fact that I have a roof rack?? I must admit, it is rather tempting to be heavy on the right foot when pulling away as it is rather nippy, but I rarely drive over 70mph...Don't do much motorway driving. Mainly urban

Yep! definitely a visit to the dealership and a quick "Diagnostic" to find out what's going on. You should be getting better mpg than you are!........Please keep us posted as to the results.....THE GREAT YETI

Thanks. Will have to get it sorted...

Hi there

it was my post!

See here: Cam sensor

Please also see my most recent post where i managed my best fuel economy yet (38 mpg).

The car has covered just under 9K miles now and I think mid 30's to low 40's is the best fuel economy I'm going to achieve. There certainly was a big jump from 20's to 30's mpg when the cam sensor was changed though.

Thanks for that...Will be in contact with the dealer soon (although I must say, from previous experience it's hard enough to get them to answer my calls, let alone action my issues!!).

Well my Fabia is getting about 34mpg from the TSi 105!

I believe Autocar are only averaging around 32 mpg in their longterm yeti 1.2,though it is no doubt used hard... :smirk: I believe it is commonly accepted that in cold start urban driving, diesel cars are much more economical than their petrol cousins

I get around 35-34 when going to work. Thats 4miles one way. 2miles free driving at around 45mph and rest is like 3-4meters stop ,3-4meters stop.

On roads with 40mph limit I get around 48mpg.

On highway depends from speed but in a range from 50mph - 75mph I get 41mpg - 35mpg.

You think these figures are good ?

All of this is normal driving ,no heavy footing. Car have 1200 miles on a clock.

Hi

I have the 1.2tsi S, it has just over 1000 on the clock we have just returned from Boston Lincs, going up on FriI got 43.mpg on the 200mile journey .

Returning Sun morning same route only managed 38mpg .

This is about 50/50 motorway and A roads.

I don't knock the engine about but I certainly don't crawl ,find she manages everything quite well even fully loaded with fishing tackle which is quite heavy.

I have managed 535 miles to the tank and hoping to get a bit more with a few more miles on the clock and a looser engine.

Hope this helps

I would LOVE to get 535 from a tank...The absolute most that I've got so far is 400. I'm gutted. Although looking at other's mpg, it seems I'm not the only one achieving only 35mpg so I feel a little bit more reassured...

We are getting about 38mpg. But that's all short journeys of 8 miles or less. Plus after 7 weeks the car has only done 300 miles.

The economy will increase as the engine loosens up. Which will probably be in 5 years at this rate...

I was expecting 40mpg, so it seems about right to me. The fule tank is not big so you are never to go a long, long distance on one fill.

The tank in the Range Rover is 100 litres and costs over 120 pounds to fill. The yeti is only something like 55, and you probably don't use the last 5 anyway before you fill it up again.

im getting 490-560 per tank..all depends on where i drive...

Getting about the same sort of consumption as you "retro" no matter how I drive however I found the fuel consumption better on the A roads, 37 mpg on a recent blast over the Black Mountain and around Brecon, this despite fast roads and steep inclines. Given up on fuel economy now and just enjoying the motor when I can.

I would not say 35 mpg is a bad result, considering that the official figure in mixed mode is 6.6 l/100 km (if I am not wrong 35 mpg=6.75 l/100 km, so only slightly worse than official). I got 7 l/100 km in overall 6000 km.

Bye,

I'm not sure exactly what mpg I'm getting. All I know is it costs me £62 to fill up the tank and I get max 400 miles to a tank...

Assuming petrol is about £1.20p per litre, you are getting slightly over 35mpg.

Thanks for that. Just can't believe that some are getting in the 40s

The Yeti is my wife's car, but I am borrowing it tomorrow to go to work and back. (84 miles)

It'll be interesting to see what I can get in mpg as it's an easy run.

I usually can get around the extra urban figure in my car, on the Yeti 1.2 DSG it's 49.6mpg! :o

Will be interesting to see how you get on...

Just completed a 150 mile round trip over the A57 to manchester today (4 up). I managed 35mpg going and 38 mpg coming back. I only ever see 40 mpg+ when running at 55-60mph on A roads (anything over 70 mph results in mid 30's mpg).

By way of comparison I test drove a 2.0 TDi (140 BHP) last weekend. It was a main dealer demo and the OBC was showing 37 mpg over the last 1500 miles. The average speed was well over 30 mph, so hadn't been used much round town. The cost to change to a 140 BHP Elegance came out around £8.5K, so I 've decided to stick with Petrol for the time being.

My view is that the 1.2 TSi engine drives more like a conventional 1.6 - 1.8, but also has the fuel economy to go with it!

Our Yeti replaced a 1.6 Qashqai. This had 115 bhp, but much shorter gearing - 5th in the Qashqai @ 70 mph equated to around 3600 rpm, whereas the same speed in the Yeti (in 6th) equates to around 1000rpm less. Despite this the Qashqai returned almost identical fuel economy to the Yeti (33 mpg in urban use and just under 40 mph at Mway speeds).

My considered view is that the 1.2 TSi in the Yeti performs on a par with a larger, but conventional engine, but also has the fuel economy of the larger engine to go with it!

Interestingly I've always been very impressed by the fuel economy of my previous "non ecocomy oriented" Skoda's (x2 Mk 1 Octavia vRS's - 30 mpg average and just over 40 mpg cruising & Mk II Octavia 1.8 TSi - similar to the Mk 1 vRS's). However the more "economy oriented" have been somewhat of a letdown (Roomster 1.9 TDi - 40 mpg and Yeti 1.2 TSi - mid 30's mpg).
