Dodgy paintwork???

Featured Replies

Noticed today, after nearly 4 months of ownership, that there are 3 x 1 pence sized areas of very slightly pitted paintwork on the roof spoiler. The areas of paint are smaller than pin heads and make up 1 pence sized circles and having slightly ran my fingernail over them are solid and NOT hollow, like you'd expect with bubbling.

Any ideas????......admittedly you can only see it in certain light as I had just parked it in the garage, but struggled to see it when i reversed it out and had a look, so unless its not serious I'm not that bothered.

I really dont want to visit the dealer unless I have to, too far etc.

It looks as though it is an overun of paint, and the small raised dots are tiny splashes....but I dont know.

Sounds like bird crap has been allowed to stay on your paint too long before being cleaned off.

Hmmmm....my car is washed more than it should be, it isn't that

A few pics might help with the diagnosis :)

Can you feel this with the back of your hand, does it feel like a scratch or not??

If its old bird **** remaines does using a quality wax take it out e.g Auto Glym super resin of Meguires cleaner wax these 2 products are really good for getting marks off paint without using harsh paint cleaners T-cut or similar.

If its not a paint defect and using above doesnt work use Meguires Quik Clay not that crap you get from Halfords own brands, it clean off any particles that are stuck to or stuck in paint finish surfaces and leaves your car paint as smooth as glass ready for waxing.

Hope this has helped

Must admit its not been an issue to me since i posted BUT I will take on board your advice as have been toying with the idea of getting a clay bar anyway.....just waiting for a dry day in which to do it

Thanks for your advice, I'll let you know how I got on

Dealer told me the Skoda paint is very, very soft - easily damaged so worth protecting.

It's the same with most cars now. They use the new 'environmentally friendly' paints which are water-based and don't have the harmful solvents. But they don't set as hard as the old stuff.

I agree with the last comment, around the front of my passanger door it looks as though the paint has worn off in a small patch, it feels like someone has run sand paper over a patch very gently and its more matt like and not shiny, surely the dealer will sort this under warantee?
