Shaking in 2nd DSG 1.8 TSI

Featured Replies

Hello all..

I have a 1.8TSI DSG Octavia 2009.. recently I'm having a problem with shaking of engine (or is it something else).. well when engine is cold everything is fine.. but when it reaches optimal temperature problem starts... starting in 1st if fine.. but then when 2nd should be changed in 3rd (between 1500 and 2000 rpm) I have a hard shaking coming from engine area which ends when car shifts into 3rd...... starting in S is fine.. hard start in D is fine.. down shifting is fine.. .

Went to a workshop - first they've tried with upgrade of software for engine (don't ask) but then they've mentioned two things: flywheel and/or watter pump..

I must note that gear shifting is fine.. shaking happens in 2nd.. not between 2nd and 3rd...

anyone had similar issue? just to know where to direct them.. car is 1year old with 30K km on the clock.. with 4years guarantee..

new simptom: strange vibration when car is started in morning.. when I add some throtle it disapears..

anyone?

Hi 1st off, does the car shake in 4th and 6th gear, if so that would point to a clutch problem as the same clutch pack drives all 3 gears. If not then shaking could possibly come down to an injection timing issue. Work colleague had a new timing belt put on his Fabia vRS. He had vibration start and it was traced to the timing belt being fitted 1 tooth out of position. I don't know if this could affect a petrol the same way but as your car will bein warranty the dealer would be my first port of call.

if I'm right - TSI does not have timing belt but timing chain...

but strange thing is that only 2nd gear on warm engine is affected... all other gears are smooth as silk.. no up-shifting or down-shifting problems whatsoever..

now I've been thinking that gear ratio of 2nd must be connected with some kind of flywheel failure..

I'm not an expert but 1st gear ratio is biggest but there is no any time to see how car behave in 1st because of the fact that DSG shifts first right after car moves.. 2nd is high as well but third is not in compare with 2nd..

so my amateur conclusion is - DSG is fine since no other symptoms are visible - it must be flywheel..

problem solved.. they've made some adjustments in accordance to service note from Skoda.. guy from a workshop showed me a note from Skoda regarding problems that might happen during <30 km/h with shaking of engine..

now is smooth again..
