2 or 4 Winter/All Season Tyres?

Featured Replies

Ok so i see there are lots of talk of the winter/all seasons tyres at present

but here is the thing i have 2 Vred Sessanta's on the front maybe 2 months old, still have bridgestone re051's on the back but they need changing very soon

so the dilemma, do i buy 2 all season/winter vreds and just move the sessanta's to the back ?

or do i need to get 4?,

cant really stretch to 4 tyres with a set of steelies so need to make the most of what i have

Thanks

Dallan

Thanks for that Chris

maybe get some snow socks :wonder: instead

i had only the fronts last year and i was ok, (going to get shot down in flames now by other forum users with anti tank missiles),

i had cooper weathermaster tyres, and was very impressed with them.

Surely if you have tyres with loads more grip on the front, you risk the back end breaking away?

Only if you go around the corners too fast

Only if you go around the corners too fast

The point I am making is that 'too fast' will be considerably different for the front and the rear, therefore leading to unpredictable handling.

4 tyres is better...Point I'm making is..Drive carefully and youll be fine with 2 winters on the front

2 winters combined with 2 summer tyres is asking for accidents. It is even unsafer than 4 summer tyres in snow.

er.. 5mph can be too fast if the road is icy? drive down hill in low grip situation you could easily swap ends..

don't like this solution - either 4 or don't bother i think.

Note to moderator, can we have a big picture of a can of worms, and make them ugly !

Starting to think the same "either 4 or don't bother i think"

thanks guys for all the advice will have to see if i can get the €€ together for 4, i need to get 2 sessantas anyway at a minimum

Dallan,

Let me know how you get on-I have the same dilemma. Either way, I reckon you'll pay less for four tyres than your insurance excess will cost you if you prang it-even a bent wishbone & lunched alloy will be pricey! Besides, you still have the good tyres come spring.......

Me personally I would not by choice have different tyres on the front to the rear regardless of summer or winter. So if it would me I would for the sake of mine and whoever happens to be in the car safety buy 4. That is however my personal look on it. I've no actually experience of winter tyres to which I will leave that to those who know.
