Knocking Creaking Noise

Featured Replies

Morning All,

I am now the proud owner of a fabia VRS on a 53 with 57k. It's been very well looked after, the only think I know that will need to be done is the cambelt pretty soon.

Anyway, there is a knocking/creaking noise coming from the nearside front wheel area. I can hear it going over bumps and also sometimes when engaging the clutch on a gear change.

I plan to take it into the garage this week but is it likely to be an engine mount, some play in the suspension or am I looking at a problem with the clutch?

I know it's obviously difficult to diagnose without seeing or hearing anything but are there any common problems with these symptoms?

Cheers.

Flip.

Console bushes will be needing done!

droplinks or bushes are probable cause tbh.

EDIT: you generally know if an engine mount has gone as its like driving a bulldozer with the nose in the ground.

As mentioned definately sounds like the console bushes need replacing. They are a common problem. The newer ones are slightly different and should last longer when replaced.

With regards to the cambelt you need to look at that sooner rather than later, as it's recommended to change it after 4 years so you are 3 years overdue.

Yes as said it will be roll bar drop links, console arm bushes or the collars can on the roll bar itself can snap off!

If its the console arm bushes id go for the ibiza cupra bushes, no issues after that

I did this and still wore them our pretty quick....personally I'd pay out and get the powerflex ones! Certainly not have any problems after that!
