Skoda Roomster - Passenger airbag rattle!

Featured Replies

Hi Folks. Hope this is in the first place as it is my first post!

I wonder if anyone can comment on this please?

I have a 07plate Roomster 1.9TDI with 23k miles

The passenger airbag in the left side of the dash is covered by a perforated metal grill which occasionally rattles / vibrates.

I have tried various ways of stabilising the cover, with no effect, but a very light press on the cover whilst the rattle is present stops it entirely, so I presume the cover is a press fit into the dash, with the airbag frame underneath being loose and vibrating against it?

The frustration is that this is only an occasional problem, but extremely irritating when its there, and seems to be more prevalent in the recent colder weather

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and is there any way to remove the grill from the dash to se what is happening underneath?

Many thanks

Have same issue on my wife's Roomster 1.9 Tdi - only when cabin is cold.

Dealer seemingly fixed our passenger airbags rattle, for good fingers crossed. However am presently chasing a buzz / rattle eminating from the dome light area. May have to wait and see if it can be sorted at 30k service

Have the same on my Fabia 2. Dealer fixed it but its returned now, along with buzzing windows! I did ask if it was easily removed a while back but no one seems to know.

Anyone know if this problem has been cured on the facelift models?

This is a rather late post but for what it's worth we've had an identical problem, evident intermittently over most of our 3 years ownership.

Our friendly Skoda dealer has had a go at it 3 times but it's still there and yes the car will be going in again ....... In fairness it's not actually been evident when the car's gone in (although very evident in the week or so before) but that's intermittent faults for you. I've heard of this before on other Roomsters so seems a general fault in which case you'd think a fix would have been logged on Skoda's tech database. Ours can come and go depending on whether we've climbed or descended a steep gradient. Very strange and a little disconcerting.

Looks like the cover is part of the airbag unit which is held in place with two screws behind the glove box. I would suggest that the dealer would be the best bet for fixing this problem. If DIYing disconnecting the earth terminal from the battery is a must, you don't want to go setting off an airbag.

We've not had our car long enough to know if the rattle has been fixed on later cars, no rattles so far ( where's the "touch wood" emoticons? )

I think this is a case of "they all do that sir" and its certainly true on cold days when the grill contracts compared to its mounting. I stopped worrying about it, decided to ignore it, and sure enough I can't hear it any more :)

An 07 plate with 23 K is light miles. My 07 has 19k, mostly motorways. Somewill will get a bargain when I trade in, though it won't be for a few years yet.

Rattles aside I love the Roomy.

Cheers

My 08 58 has never had any rattles so unless Skoda corrected any problems then they don't "all do that sir"
