Hot Hot Hot Smell

Featured Replies

When I parked up after driving 4 miles home yesterday evening.

But had had the car out a couple of wee runs during the afternoon

So the needle had reached working temp (comfortably)

So would this have been the DPF cooking off?

After about 1000 miles from new?

Having been in the car care chemicals business in a previous life, I have heard of residual "predelivery" or "transit" wax being left behind near exhaust parts after the new vehicle is dewaxed on import , which can melt away when new, making quite a smell. Nothing to worry about!

Mine still stank after 8500 miles, worried me too for a bit until I sussed it was the exhaust / dpf burn off. Burning smell at the rear of the car, more noticeable when I was getting stuff out of the boot, plus the usual ''ting ting ting'' from the exhaust. Not as noticeable nowadays with almost 30k on the clock.

thanks veryred, I am not concerned as her still be under warrenty, anyway I suspect the couple of longer faster "runs" recently should have disposed of any such wax, just curious, cheers

One of my friends had a hot plasticky smell from under his car once, and it turned out to be a plastic carrier bag that had been sucked under the car and had melted onto the exhaust. Might be worth checking. He managed to scrape it all off OK.

Probably the end of a DPF cooking session.

Sometimes this is accompanied by the fans running after turning the ignition off. Mine did exactly that yesterday after a trip to ASDA.

Mmmmm burning soot.
