Hi. do you know some items that I can take from other car, that can improve the perfomance of this motor? thank you...

Ps suggestion about head? polishing? many thanks...

there is a very limited selection of camshafts available for those engines, most of which wont run with the standard injection gear... you can get 4-2-1 stainles manifolds fairly cheaply for those too..

Silly question Tom, but given that the standard system is already a 4-2-1, would changing the manifold make a huge difference, or is it more a case of different pipe lengths to sacrifice low down torque for more top* end? I remember somewhere you reckoned 150bhp was fairly easily achievable from the AEE, I'm guessing that takes at least a new cam, injectors, ECU and full exhaust system.

I'll be following this one with interest too, as I reckon even an extra 15-20bhp could make this lazy lump much more enjoyable. As it is, my girlfriend's Rover 214 8v feels a heck of a lot quicker, even though the Felicia has the edge on paper.

*although I hesitate to call the poxy 5,500rpm limit 'top end'. My other engine is an old, rattly, lumpy twin and even that happily goes to nearly 12k :D

yes you are indeed right to question this wisdom, the standard cast manifold and downpipe are already a 4-2-1 design. a lot of it comes down to the sizes of the pipework, the standard downpipe is 42mm OD at the cat, whereas most of the aftermarket ones are 50mm.. although the oe manifold is actually very well designed there is some benifit to be had from having equal length primaries on the header...

it wouldn't be easy (or cheap) to get 150 stallions from an aee engine but not impossible.. conrods being the weakest link in the chain as well as the clutch, you would need to run an ITB system. besides the standard 'purple' injectors will top out somewhere around 130bhp unless you crank up the fuel pressure... the selection of aftermarket cams avaiable dont use the standard timing marks or dizzy ignition trigger angle so watch out when buying

i've dug this picture up from the deepest darkest recesses of my photobucket page to wet your appetite

To be fair, you would have to throw a lot of money at it though for very little gain. To get good gains is going to cost a lot, and for that you may as well sell the car and buy something with the power levels you want from the 1.6 engine. Tuning a Normally aspirated engine is very expensive to get noticable power gains.

Thank you, you speak about purple injector... are they mounted into GTI?

About exhaust, I think that I have only change the shape, because if I increase the diameter, I will loss power at low rpm... is it true?

Cheers Act...

the purple injector i mentioned is the standard factory fitted injector on the aee 1.6 8v engine and some of the 1.4 16v 100bhp engines
