Km/h digital display removed from Maxidot

Featured Replies

Might be old news but I couldn't recall a post removing the km/h digital display on the FL Mk2

I just recoded the country selection in #17 Instruments with VCDS (10.6.1) and its now selectable in the Maxidot menu as "Alt. Speed Dis." It now puts the external temp display where the KM/h used to be.

It also now gives a large MPH digital speed display that wasn't there before (that's part of the MFD data that you can scroll through and de-select if you dont want it)

Cheers Keith - looks good!!

All I need to do now is get Maxidot retro fitted to my car

Ooo, i hadnt seen this.... trouble is i am now going to have to nip out to my car and have a look.

Nice find, but come on don't just tell us half the info! what country did you re-code it to? emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Missed that from the OP, wasn't intentional. Ended up using Saudi. All other the other countries in the list work as well though, The USA one is almost the same, its produces a warning 'bong' if the doors are opened when engine is running, didnt want that so stuck with Saudi. Seems OK so far........

EDIT - Apart from the speed warning that triggers at 74mph. Recoded to Australia and that has got rid of the issue.

Cheers, I will give it a go when mine arrives emoticon-0148-yes.gif .

Stupid question but is this possible on a pre-FL model?

Could this be illegal?

I thought it was a legal requirement to have both MPH & KMH on display? emoticon-0125-mmm.gif

No it is legal to be able to switch between the two, so its OK.

(I think this contradicts what I have previously posted in another thread that you do not need a mph readout if you have kph. I no longer believe this is correct, at least for cars built after 1984.)

If it is illegal it would have to be one hell of a pedantic copper to find it to be able to point it out . . .

Ah but you know what plod are like...

Anything to pick up a little extra cash from the motorist, especially now as loads of their little yellow roadside piggy banks have been (Permanently hopefully) switched off!

Cool mod! Are you now also able to change it from MPH to KMH? It would be very useful to have such a big KMH display when on the Continent.

Not on mine, when you select "alt speed disp" then the digital kmh returns in its original position and the larger mph display is removed.

Australia seems a better choice for the country setting, The Saudi one triggers a speed warning at 74mph that you cant turn off until you drop below 74mph

That is ok then. At least the km/h is still there when on the Continent. And I use my TomTom at the moment anyway to see the km/h speed. So this is still a cool mod.

I'm wondering if anything has changed in the service settings. I know some countries don't run variable and when you recode to a different setting it changes the service notice.

Not that I can find, all settings remain intact. Countdown to variable service is just the same as it was. Even the MFD memory history was retained, no other change other than removal of km/h speed as far as I can see.
