When best to change gear after remap

Featured Replies

I'm getting my car on the dyno on sat so will know where peak torque is but now it's remapped it pulls up to 5k should I really be changing gear around 4k?

This is my first turbo and diesel car, my 182 I just floored it every gear till 7krpm

Its really down to each map if we're being honest, but the cars generally die out around 5K, but lean off around 4.5 but sometimes going past will give you a better kick in the next gear...its really about knowing you're own car and remap :) but should deffinately pull harder and longer

Fastest acceleration will always be when you change up at the redline. Peak torque is just when you feel maximum acceleration, not when it stops.

You'll be able to see once you have the RR graph in your hand - and see when power tails off. At that point, change up as there's nothing left in that gear....

I fundamentally disagree with that statement. I'll try to explain why.

1. Roadspeed is revs x gearbox ratios so you will go faster quicker by letting it rev to the red line.

2. When you short-shift you run the risk of bogging down at too low revs when you re-engage the clutch.

3. It's unlikely that the drop in power on the right hand side of the peak is more than the drop in power on the left hand side of the peak after you have shifted down.

It's very easy to try this for yourself.

1st. 10mph, 2nd 20mph, 3rd. 30mph. and so on. Saves stress on the Flywheel.
