2003 100BHP Superb Oil

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My Superb is in need of an oil change. I'm afraid when it comes to modern cars, I know little regarding the finer points. Iwonder if you could tell me the right type of oil for her. She's got 147k on the clock. Is it still fully synthetic or semi-synthetic oil I need? I have no idea what 505.00 means, so could you tell me in terms of viscosity?

Thanks very much

You need 5w/40 VW spec 505.01 for fixed servicing or VW spec 507.00 5w/30 for variable, both are fully synthetic.

Or a 5/30 505.01 oil, and you should check what it's been eating all those miles, if it's been on semi you should stay on semi, mixing the two can rip engine seals out, tends to be synth after semi that does it, it cleans away sludge and leaves you with leaks, and don't flush it unless you know it's always been flushed.

Hi

Thanks guys, I assume with her full service history, she's been eating fully synthetic. I'll go and get a 5w 40 would probably be best.

Cheers.

remember it's not the viscosity - but the 505.1 spec that's important with PD engines

Agreed.
