Juddering Car and CEL

Featured Replies

Was out in the car today and all of a sudden it started to judder, even when stationary. While I was limping home I noticed I was getting a flashing CEL light, this would occasionally go out but was generally flashing. Acceleration was jerky then occasionally cleared, leaving car unresponsive and down on power. I also heard on occasions rapidly repeated activations of the dump valve. Was hoping it was a coil pack failure all the way home, as this would be an easy cheap fix.

When I got home first thing I did was go and get the laptop, one fault scan later I had two engine fault codes:

Address 01: Engine Labels: 06A-906-032-AJQ.lbl

Part No: 06A 906 032 HN

Component: 1.8L R4/5VT G 0002

Coding: 11500

Shop #: WSC 12338

VCID: 71EDAAF611DB

TMBER41U338700458 SKZ7Z0C1891732

2 Faults Found:

16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

P0300 - 35-00 - -

16687 - Cylinder 3: Misfire Detected

P0303 - 35-00 - -

Readiness: 0000 0000

Is this an indication of a coil pack failure? Also which would be cylinder no 3 assuming I'm standing in front of the car looking at the engine (pointing towards the rear of the car).

If this is a failed coil pack any ideas of the part number and where is best to get one tomorrow, I'm going away on sunday and need the car.

Cheers i advance for the help.

Sounds like a coilpack, try GSF or any local car spares shop, somebody will have one in stock for you.

Cheers, had a look on GSF and euro car parts sites, price looks reasonable (may buy 2 or 4) euro car parts list them as in stock ready for immediate dispatch :) So looks like I'm on a shopping trip first thing i the morning.

Having read another thread about similar problems to yours, sounds like you could have a coil pack failure as well. Quick look at prices shoes you can get them for £32 max inc vat from either GSF or EuroCarParts. If your still having problems in a weeks time (after 8th of nov) I could pop down and scan the car for you, unless there is someone closer to you with vag-com.

I'm in need of getting one tomorrow as I'm going away at the weekend and need the car. Why does stuff always have to break just as you need it?

Swapped coil packs for cylinders 2 & 3 then reset fault codes, and then went for a short (250 yard) drive same symptoms occured and flashing cel light. Fault scaned the car again when I got back, same random/multiple misfire detect, but this time it was cylinder 2 misfire detect. Quick trip to GSF and a some coil pack purchased £25.55 Inc vat each. New coil pack fitted to replace broken one and some spares for when the others go. Will be resetting fault codes and going for a test drive shortly.

Cleared the fault codes and went for another short test drive. Rescanned car on return, no fault codes found and car running like normal again :) Appears it was a failed coil pack.
