Another Yeti on order

Featured Replies

Well having been around the houses of Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, Toyota, Mazda, Kia, Merc, VW, Vauxhall and Ford

I decided to stay with Skoda and ordered, through James at Allams, a Yeti 1.2 DSG SE

Having read lots of info on this forum, many thanks all, I went for some of the usual options:

Rear view mirror/Rain sensor

Lumbar support

Heated windscreen

Towbar prep and towbar

Tyre pressure monitor

Mudflaps

Boot mat and Textile floor mats

and Cappuccino paint

Due to the long lead times I decided to specify that the car should not be delivered earlier than 1 March 2011 so that I can have the new plate and miss the Winter.

So only 4 months at best to wait

Hi and welcome to the Yeti queue! I've ordered mine through James as well. Hopefully should be delivered sometime in December.

What a bunch of good accessories there FAB-Bri :D

Are you counting down the days? No build week yet I'm afraid!

Good choice.

To me the 1.2 DSG represents good value for a good car. But then I would say that as we have one.

After my usual 'investigative deliberations' including looking in on the helpful info. and debate on this site.....(thanks all for that).... I'm getting closer to ordering a Yeti.

It would be 1.2 DSG Muscovaco and either "SE" or "S" with optional reversing sensors. Options might just be limited to Light Assisant, Spare wheel and the 'Adventure Pack' (Mudflaps, Boot liner and rubber mats).

I fully understand that if I order before the end of November, the current price and VAT rate will be held.

I also see that a popular (and, I honestly believe, trustworthy) on line broker that is often refered to, will give a discount of £1986.80p on an SE with those options mentioned and I would be very willing to use them in the light of the experience of others as well as personal experience many years ago.

My local dealer has offered a 'small discount' and, because of the long delay my current PX was a difficult topic (which I understand) and I'd probably sell privately.

The broker supplied car would need to be either collected or dealer driven from "near the M25".... (200 + miles) and Allams is also 200+ miles from me.

I'd obviously prefer to buy locally and establish a pleasant relationship with the local dealer, but £1980 off list is not to be sniffed at and the local dealer would get servicing and any warranty work.

Dare I now ask the panel for their thoughts on all the above?

Would prefer honest, down to earth, answers even if I might not like them.... :-)

BTW....Delivery on the 1.2 DSG is expected to be 26 - 28 weeks ...ie. six or seven months.

Thanks in anticipation......

Quite a few of us have used internet brokers to source our Yetis with a decent discount, but I guess for a lot of Skoda dealers, they can sell every Yeti they get without having to discount heavily as the cars are in short supply.

As it happens, when I ordered my Octavia I ended up using a more local dealer as they were able to get within about £150 of the online price and I didn't have to travel the 200 odd mile journey to collect it.

Either way, despite the wait, I'm sure you'll love your Yeti!

You will keep the car for many years. So a little weekend trip to London, a B&B in the Cotswolds on the way home and voila it really is not far to come get a car here for near £2000 discount. The B&B will be £50 odd and the train the same. So still a sizeable saving.

I used Drivethedeal and can't fault them at all since ALL your dealings are with a bonafide Skoda dealer. I will never buy through a broker that orders on your behalf and you have to pick the car up from some shady warehouse. What happens if they go bust during the seven months of waiting for the car? Will this Skoda dealer go bust? Unlikely. So DtD the only way to go in my book.

And after you got your car you can still service it and do all the warranty work at your trusty local dealer.

You are not alone - ordered the same day as you and also a 1.2 TSi DSG.

Elegance in Aqua Blue/ Onyx ( toyed with Gobi but SWMBO put her practical cap on)

Rough road package

(no intention of going off road but not a bad thing to have anyway and it does ensure the wheel arch film protectors are fitted)

Silver roof rails

Spare wheel

Columbus Sat Nav

Tyre pressure monitor

Mud flaps

Carpet mats included with the Elegance - apparently ?

Might go for the door sill scuff plates later.

March/April seems a long wait but I understand Skoda are increasing Yeti production in January, so who knows, could be sooner.

Thanks.......As you probably worked out, it is the firm you mention that I refer to.

Were doing similar to 900000.Down to kingscross on the train, see a show, stay the night in London, piccadilly underground to Heathrow, get off at (is it hounslow east?), walk to garage..........Drive home in new Yeti. Result...

DtD- save £2000 - and £65 for afirst class train from York this Saturday - if it's Marlborough you're going, get the train to Isleworth.

:p :p

".....Is it Hounslow East?"............If you mean ....left out of Hounslow East underground, left into High Street, becoming London Road (A315), passing the Bus Garage along the way, past Isleworth British Rail Stn, and continuing until you almost reach Wood Lane/Amhurst Gdns......................then the answer is probably yes. Looks like bus ride along London Rd, esp. if it was raining. Bus number 235 or 237 according to the enquiry line. Don't take my word for it though, I'm just looking at what it seems to show on the net....it also looks like you could enjoy Kew Gdns as it's a stones throw away.

Roomster production moving out in January I believe to make way for increased Superb and Yeti production to meet unseen demand.

Just done the trip today. £35 rail fare, Leeds to Kings X, tube (Victoria Line) to Vauxhall, then platform 3 to Isleworth. Out of the station turn right about 200 metres walk.

Hand over wasn't great, "here's your car ......... now p*** off" as we're not making any money on this (that was the impression given). Had a steady drive up the M1 at 51.8 mpg. Snow Monster now parked on the driveway looking very splendid in Candy White.

Well done Phil! Congrats on the new car.

Pity their attitude was like that at handoever. Other people have mentioned good handovers from this dealer. And if they don't make any money why keep supplying them to DtD for that price?! So I'm sure there is money to be made in this deal for them otherwise they won't do it.

Because they have to meet target. They are not making anything out of the deal, literally once they have paid the valeters it is nearly a loss even taking into account possible back end margin.

But why set a target like that then? Makes no sense to me. Surely the other dealers don't have such high targets to meet and yet they also sell cars - and make money in doing so I'd imagine.

It's quite complicated but Skoda set dealer targets based on many things including how many units you sold in the previous year.

So if in 2003 dealer A did 130% of their target the target in 2004 goes up by 20% or something which they manage to make 100% of target, the following year it will still go up by 5% or so. So every year your target gets bigger and bigger and the only way to keep up is to do deals like the DtD ones. They earn you literally no money or even sometimes you loose a few quid but it will help you make your target which if you do will make the other deals you did profitable.

It's not a good position to be in from a dealers point of view, relying on reaching your target bonus is a dangerous game!

Ah!!! Thanks for that James. Now it makes sense. Sounds like vicious circle to be in. All that work for little money in the hope a fool like me comes along that adds a LOT of dealer fit goodies. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif Though in saying that they can't even manage the biggest one of these (as you know) since they can't do the towbar!

I know it is not a good situation to be in, basically you have got to meet target but appear to have only just made it!

Hence why we sometimes register demo cars at very odd times like the last few days in December rather than waiting until the following year as we might have been waiting for one car to arrive and it doesn't so we have to fork out and pay for a car just to ensure we make target!
