Flame from exhaust, should I be worried?

Featured Replies

It's happened once, going up a steep hill in 3rd it's been mapped and floored it.

It didn't do it on the rr the other day but this happened last week

Could be wrong but sure I seen an orange flash in my mirror it was dark at the time, it had never been driven hard in years from the previous owner I'd not long bought it when it happened

Flame from the exhaust of a Tdi, that I would like to see, sure it wasn't bits of molten turbo :giggle:

I was just reading somewhere that it can happen, when it happened or when I thought it happened I said to myself no it couldn't have been but after reading it can happen I thought maybe it did.

only ever had it on buses when the cats blocked up so it can happen

when the exhaust is that choked up and it gets a good seeing to then the carbon in the exhaust can catch fire so it defo can happen, used to do it on generators all the time

I'll be decatting and egr deleting it soon hopefully

It was prob the first time I floored it and got over 4k rpm

Sounds like you have a partially plugged cat. Carbon builds up on the pipe immediately in front of the cat. When it comes loose you will get flashes of deep orange.
