What to check for 2006 Octavia VRS TDI

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm going to look at a lovely 56 plate Octavia VRS TDI tomorrow at a dealer. The car has done 85,000 miles, so what should I be looking for. This is my first diesel so could you inform me on service intervals and requirements please so I have a bit of knowledge when I get there?

The dealer said they've changed the cambelt and waterpump, will the DPF need looking at? Anything else I should know?

Thanks,

Dan

EDIT: Also any recalls or essential mods that I need to be aware of?

It needs to have had the 26E6 ECU software update. This improves the management of the DPF and reduces the problems with it.

The other main area of concern would be the turbo - just listen out for any loud police siren noise under mid-range acceleration in lower gears. A small amount of noise from the turbo is normal though.

I guess you'll get a years warranty with it - if the DPF were to be a problem after that time you could have it removed.

Thanks. Is that software update a free of charge update from Skoda then? I assume the only way I'd be able to check this is with a VAG-COM? I don't have one of those.

Is the car at a main or independent dealer? If it's a Skoda dealer they should be able to check and tell you whether the update has been done.

It's at an independant, not a Skoda dealer. I'll have a read through the service book. In my Audi it had a section for recalls which was filled out, so I'd imagine the Skoda would have the same.

Well I bought it!

It was really tidy and very well spec'd. Vrs tdi with xenons, maxi dot, cd changer, 4x electric windows, sunset tints, cruise control, just had the cambelt done, one year warranty, fsh. Very pleased and a really nice guy to deal with.

I had some photos taken but I'm on my phone at the moment and I don't think I can get them on here without my computer so I'll do it when I get back. It's a 56 plate blue vrs tdi estate. :-)

Welcome to the "dark side"

Good spec that and the Estates do look good with the sunset glass.

Thanks!

Thinking I might paint the chrome surround blue. This an easy job? Is it just a case of rubbing it down and painting it?

Very nice caremoticon-0148-yes.gifemoticon-0103-cool.gif

Nice car and in the best colour

Good stuff. Looks a decent spec. Does it have the Jumbo box and rear elec windows too? Can't see from the pics. Maxidot and dual zone climate are good to have. And has the 17" Zeniths?

I'm new to this, so bear with me! Wheels are 17" I think, don't know what model.

It has rear electric windows, I don't know what the jumbo box is...what is it?

More photos here if it helps...

Just found this on Google...

Jumbo Box

The Jumbo-Box between the front seats with an adjustable armrest can be cooled (if the car has air conditioning). The installed audio socket will enable you to make a journey more pleasant by listening to your favourite music. The back wall of the Jumbo Box may contain controls for heating the rear seats (optional accessory).

I guess it must have, yes. Is the box air conditioned? Cold iPhone! :giggle:

I also noticed it has a 3.5mm jack labelled aux in there. Is this to connect my iPod too for audio in? How do I select this on the Skoda Stream MP3? (That name makes me giggle!) There doesn't seem to be an aux input button.

Nice! Xenons, jumbo box, sunset glass & rear parking sensors-cracking spec! Shame about the colour....... :p  Nah, I like blue really

Oh how I miss it! :(

If it's got ESP, I think it will be Teves Mk60, so be prepared to walk away unless a BIG discount is being offered or the dealer will get the pump module remanufactured at their expense by this lot...

It does have ESP but I've bought it now. I had an ABS module fault on my S4 but I found another unit at a breakers for £80 and it worked fine. The Skoda has a good warranty with it for a year so that'll be covered in any case.

Hope it fails in the next 12 months, then:

The fuse seems to be set for around the four-year mark, so with luck you'll be alright. Unfortunately, even new parts have the same design fault, so whatever you put in its place will fail sooner or later...

Fingers crossed for you - this may help!

As long as the warranty covers it.
