For anyone that has a EGR deleted TDI please help!

Hi,

I took a look at the engine bay today and realised that a hose is off and there is a little oil. Can you tell me where this hose connects to for a EGR deleted tdi car?

That's a vacuum hose and would probably usually go to the anti shudder valve on top of the EGR, or the EGR valve itself. I have 2 spare vacuum hoses capped off with golf tees as a result of EGR delete. :)

It's not a boost hose. :) It's a vacuum hose which normally operates the EGR or ASV. :) There will be air coming out of it (and in) as the car attempts to control the EGR which isn't there, so best to cap it off top prevent foreign objects getting into the vacuum box.

No, but you might think you have a boost leak.

The control valve for the EGR is a changeover valve so will let in air (lose vacuum) wheneverit is off. As the only time the EGR is turned off is at WOT, this will affect the turbo most of the time.

is that not the vent pipe that fits on to the air box by the maf,? it so vents the vacuum out when the vaves operate and blanking it will stop the turbo from actuating properly.

just check that you have one going to the airbox first, there is a shrouded nipple for it to fit onto

The second pipe looks like the pipe to the airbox.....

I am in the process of replacing all my vacuum pipe work - will check and maybe draw a map of where all the pipes go....

Thanks guys, I have just checked engine, I dont see any opening on the airbox...

Looking at the bay I have seen some oil in there, could be coming from this same pipe....

Could this explain the duty cycle going up and down and not making requested boost?

That pipe I believe should connect in underneath where the big fat pipe comes out of the airbox, far left corner (when viewed from the front). I am at work, so I am not allowed to take pictures (MOD site), so I'll see if I can find suitable image and mark up where that pipe should go.

Oil won't be coming from that vacuum hose.... The pipe that is covered in "stuff" is the hydraulic pipe for the clutch slave cylinder. I would have a look for any boots which may have split in the area.....

Have you had any work done recently on the car?

This pic shows some of my pipework, and that pipe does go to the airbox, have a look from the side of the car, rather than front and you should see where it goes.

Just looked at some pics on my camera for when I blanked off my EGR pipework.

The vacuum hose which controls the EGR stuff is connected to the top of the right hand (n75) white topped control valve and runs to a T piece, and then through "black& white" thing (I think it might be a one way valve, but not sure!

I'll try and get the images off my camera and upload them for you to see.

If that's the pipe to the airbox, then you might find that the bayonet fitting has been broken off the airbox and all you have how is a hole. I've looked again at the second picture and I think mbames is right.

If the end has snapped off and is still stuck in the pipe, then I guess a bit of araldite and a nail to align the two would do the trick, although I am sure it would break off pretty quickly if someone tried remove the pipe from the airbox in the future....

The fix is to...

cut off about 6-7mm from the end of the hose

open up the hole in the airbox so the fitting is a tight fit but goes though

glue from the inside of the airbox

or just close off the hole in the airbox with foil tape or similar and fit a small plastic fuel filter to the end of the pipe (which is exactly what ford do with it on a galaxy)

Maybe the oil return (or feed) pipe for the turbo is not very tight? Or was it really messy beforehand?

How is your brake fluid level? Still given that level of mess down there, I would have expected the warning light on by now if it were hydraulic fluid.

Brake fluid level seems fine. No hydraulic fluid lights however I am getting a temperature warning light - most likely Coolant temperature sensor

Temp light is more likely to be caused by air bubbles on the prong sensors in the coolant/expansion tank, which makes the car think the fluid level is low. Give the prongs a rub with a toothbrush or a bit of wood. I have never seen a CTS cause a warning light - either a dodgy gauge reading, or poor performance.

I have to look out a picture for the oil pipes for the turbo.... kink hard to explain (especially when I am not really sure!)

The hydraulics are shared between the brakes and the clutch on the Octy, the first warning when the fluid drops is the hand brake light coming on, iirc coupled with some beeps.

Hi guys,

I fixed one issue and found another!

Can you guys tell me what this is?

found it dropped at the back of the engine cover, looks like it is leaking oil

Any help appreciated. :)

Arh, that is easy. That valve controls the vacuum to the anti-shudder butterfly valve in the EGR housing.

Kind of hard to explain - the clip on mine is broken so I just tie-wrapped it in place. Look to the yellow tie-wrap end on this pic. It clips onto the rear of that piece of metal pipework, upside down.....

As your clip looks to be infact, to should just fit back on..... However if your EGR assembly has been removed, complete with the anti-shudder, then just plug the end of the vacuum pipe and tie-wrap out of the way.
