v5 replacement? what to do

Featured Replies

I just bought the missus a megane coupe from a local car dealer , and he said he just got the car in last night as a trade-in and got it for a reasonable price, but he said the previous owner had to drop in the V5 to him and he would post it out to me..... I phoned him today to ask where it was and he said that the previous owner said it was in the car.... and it wasnt.... so looks like I have no V5..... what do I do???

I know I can fill out a V62 to get a new one , but that is only really for the current owner to fill out if he had lost his, but there is a section for a new keeper but I would have to send in the tear-off strip from the old V5 that would have been given to me from the old keeper if he had the V5 ahhhhhhh....

can anyone help....

thanks

that puts you up the creek really dont it mate. hmmmm could the dealer not get one?

Ask the dealer to get the previous owner to fill in a replacement V5 application, he must have some sort of contact details for the previous owner. Once the previous owner receives it, he can sign the registered keeper bit at the bottom, then pass it on to you.

Never buy a car without the V5 is the moral of the story.

Edit: Get the dealer to get the form and have the previous owner sign it, as the dealer was the one who led you to believe the car came with one, at the end of the day it's the dealers mistake which he should rectify.

I got it in good faith... well I thought I did ... he told me the previous owner would drop it into him, then he (the dealer) would post it on to me .... now he says the PO says that it was in the car which its not.... Did rac car check on the car and came back clear for all the usual stuff so i didnt worry much at the time...

Like I say, get the dealer to do the legwork sorting it out (or threaten to return the car for a refund). He led you to believe that the car was coming with a V5 and it didn't. His mistake - he sorts it out.

I have purchased a car without one, due to a private plate change. Tax ran out and I did not have a V5 to buy tax, so had to go to the local DVLA. Filled out a couple of forms and V62 was defiantly one. Got tax from the office and new V5C in post.
