Recommendations for a good HID lamp kit

This is annoying, as you've mentioned fog lights for CH/LH use as well! Must be a new FL feature that then, as I'm damned if I can find it in VCDS for a pre-FL :x:

I've not seen it on pre-FL. Only FL and 'LE' models which had the newer Controller 9 software.

Sorry for being stupid but what does this mean

"fog lights for CH/LH "

When you lock/unlock your car you dips normally come on as "coming home "CH" or Leaving Home "LH"

I got this turned to fog lights instead of Dips.

This is the coding I was given for it

CH/LH Foglights

BYTE-17

BIT-3 Tick the box

Hauptmann -- makes you wonder what Skoda are thinking of! I thought the LE didn't even have Xenons as an option? So why give the option to save the headlights by using fogs??????

I assume the electrical/electronic system fitted was updated in preparation for the FL features. Moreover VAG seem to use the same controllers across all four brands of cars so a Skoda controller can have features not found on any Skoda model!

As said, for the pre-FL special edition, it'll just be luck that this is possible as it got the new controller. Probably related to the use of the new dash cluster and climate on it too?

Tim - Mike's already PM'd you about VCDS coding. Just to say, I have the facility as well if you need it. Just to bear in mind...

Cheers,

Steve

Well,

I have been out and about three times in the dark with these HID's since fitting them (5000k)

Not sure if i have made a mistake or not..

These appear to be lighting up VERY blue...Much more than I expected.

And if I am being honest with myself I would almost put a bet on that my original bulbs were brighter.. I did drive a '08 L&K with factory fitted Xenon's and I remember being blown away with these..

Hmm..

Decisions decisions..

Do I leave them in or take them out....

Would I need to re-code back again if I were to re-fit the Halogen bulbs??

I wonder if you got a set of 'mis-labelled' bulbs of a higher colour temp. 5000K should be a slightly bluish white.

I would be inclined to get a pair of 4300K bulbs (approx the OE colour temp) and try those. I have fitted quite a number of these and without exception every owner has said they are much brighter than the halogens.

I am thinking this could be a set of mis-labelled bulbs.

The light on the road in front of the car is prominently bluish.. and the cut off line to the top is strong blue ..!!

Should i contact the supplier and query this?? as thee is no chance of any hint of white light coming from these.

Sounds very odd. I would contact the supplier and ask for replacement bulbs.

I will contact them and see what they say

Hi all, can I fit my HIDS before I have the car recoded, I will fit them then take the car for recoding and will not use them. Or Is it best to wait until after the recoding?

That is exactly what I did

Fitted them on Monday and got coding done on Tuesday.

Did NOT use the lights between.

I also took my original bulbs with me in case of any unexpected problemsemoticon-0148-yes.gif

Yes, you can fit and recode later. If you use the lights without recoding they will probably work OK with just the ignition on, but flicker when the engine is running (or not come on at all). This does not harm the car, but is not good for the HID burners.

I've owned 3 cars with factory xenons, all VAG - 6N2 Polo GTi and two Fabia vRSes. And I'd say that the 4300k kit Hauptmann fitted for me is very, very similar in start-up, appearance and performance to the previous 'factory' setups I've had.

I'm certainly very impressed with the light output, not only as an upgrade from halogens but also for the price paid :)
