iTunes

Featured Replies

My computer won't let the latest iTunes and Quicktime player download as it can't find a file name or something like that.

All my music is on an external harddrive, so i am thinking what would happen if i uninstall itunes and quicktime player from my computer and then reinstall it.

In theory, if you go to where the iTunes library is (go to preferences in iTunes, then Advanced) and then look for the 'iTunes Media Folder Location' - mine is C:\Users\Joe\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media as an example. Take the contents of this folder (should be iTuneslibrary.something in there at least) and copy it somewhere safe. If you now reinstall iTunes, and then paste those files back to that location then it should work.

This assumes it's pointing at the default location (Libraries -> Music -> iTunes in Windows7. I'd guess my music in XP/Vista), and just the music is stored elsewhere though. If it has been changed, you can export the playlists, then reimport them after you've installed iTunes and added the folder containing your music. I'm in a simular situation to you with the music on a different partition to the OS, and that works ok for me. If the Folder Location is pointing else where I've found it's a case of trying the above but with a lot of trail and error.

HTH,

Joe.

I unistalled itunes, Safari and Bonjour but when i tried to uninstall QuickTime player it couldn't as that seems to be the problem with what i am trying to do.

Oh crap, totally missed what you were asking there!

Will it let you install just Quicktime on its own, with the idea being you can replace the missing file, and then try to uninstall it again? And then try and do iTunes installation?
