Felicia Water Leak - NOT ANY MORE!

Featured Replies

Since I bought Percy a couple of years ago I've been plagued with damp carpets & sound deadening & had windscreen out & resealed twice trying to cure it without success. I decided it wasn't that much of a problem till about a 2 weeks ago, I parked next to a mini (classic) at work, we both came out & jumped into misted up cars, mini cleared first. Something had to be done!

I'd read several opinions about dash out sealing & windscreen sealing & decided to try everything again.

I took dash out & saw water marks on the sound deadening behind it where there had been a leak previously, but that was dry so guess the windscreen reseal cured that.

I took all the dash out (not as daunting as it sounds) and poke around without finding anywhere obvious that would leak. Having a ponder moment we took the wiper arms off & that long plastic trim under the wiper arms off. There are holes under there for the wiper arms & trim securing pegs for both left & right hand drive models. The left hand drive holes had no seals over them so we filled them will silicone/mastic & went of for a cuppa. Then put the trim back on & aimed a hose at him, after 10 minutes of

sitting inside (no carpets, underlay, seats etc) he was dry. I've put the dash etc back in and so far he is DRY :) :).

I found the hardest part of interior & dash in/out was putting a new power socket in where the cigarette lighter was & don't actually think taking the dash out was necessary.

Is the leak definately water?

Taking the dash out is easier than haynes make out but still a good days work.

If I were to do it again on another car I'd start with the plastic panel under the wipers followed by a windscreen reseal.

To get the dash out, you need the seats & centre console out. Take steering wheel off (look out for airbag). There are nuts on the engine side of the bulkhead behind the battery, heater & wipermotor (I think 6 or 8) these need to be undone. Then I think four bolts from under the dash & some screws behind the fascia (either side of light switches behind the blank, behind blank near fog light switch + I think another).

Disconnect headlight level switch then grab a friend to help you lift the windscreen side of the dash up & forward (remembering to disconnect all switches etc) you will also have to undo the bolts on the steering column to give you more clearance.

Then you see a mass of dust & sound deadening & bugger all sign of a leak!

Good luck with it, if I get to the haynes manual I will check on what bolts you undo & from where.
