Cuise Control Retrofit

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere, I seem to remeber someone has asked before but I am having trouble finding the post.

I have decided that I would like cruise control on my Yeti, I am wondering how big a job is it, I found that the part cost around £70, however is it just a straight forward? ie removing trim above steering wheel and replace the stalk? Are there any additional steps. I understand I would need to have the ECU "recalibrated" for it to work. Any recommendation for the NE, near Durham?

Another question is about what other things could I do whilst I am getting the ECU recalibrated? For example, I would like the doors to lock above 10mph. I also understand that the dashboard light goes darker when its darker outside with the DRL on. I am wondering whether this mean all the Yetis have light sensors? If so, is it a straight forward job to just replace the light switch with the one with Auto?

How about "coming home" light, could it be turned on with just the ECU recalibrated?

Thanks!

Steering wheel (thus airbag) off, all the trims off, remove steering angle sensor etc and then it has to be activated with VAGCOM.

The steering angle sensor should self calibrate when driven.

If you have maxidot then autolock doors is configurable via the onscreen menu, as I found out yesterday

I had this done by the A2 guru to my A2. Steering wheel and airbag was taken off and left safely under the car. Old stalk taken out and new one fitted as well as a wire of some sorts. Can't remember why. Then all back together and laptop plugged in and it was done in about 30 to 40 min. He charged me £120 if memory serves including all the parts. Best thing I've ever bought for my car so I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the replies! Don't think I fancy taking out the steering wheel, might delay it a little.

My car doesn't have maxidot, in retrospective I would like that, What would be better/easier, getting Maxidot or getting the ECU recalibrated, price etc?

WIth regards to the auto light? Any thoughts?

Thanks

I'm sure you can find someone to do it for you (on this forum - or at an auto electrician). But yes you need someone that is comfortable with taking an airbag out of the steering wheel. Which looked far easier than I ever thought!

As many people on here say, why not try Ben at shark performance(shark_90) he comes highly recommended and will be able to do lots of work on your car if he can get hold of the appropriate parts for a Yeti, could well be a day trip or 1 night stayover as he is a bit further south than you are.

+1 for Ben - top chap and interested too

Thanks for the replies, will give him a shout when I move back to London.

Thanks for the website, it seems that the part is quite reasonable. Whilst browsing on Skoda parts I found this: http://www.superskoda.com/images/Plasty/71069-2.jpg

I think they cost 279 EURO!!! Much more than I expected.
