Standard Radio

Featured Replies

Hi,

I still have the original stereo in my fab and tonight I switched it on and the big button in the middle flew out, anyone ever had this happen? I think there was a spring inside it as now when I attempt to put it back in it doesnt sort of pop back out. It just stays in.

any ideas?

Whats required to get rid of the standard radio anyway? new facia surround?

Cheers

Yep, just a new surround. Don't buy it from halfrauds, they will charge you about £20 for it - a Skoda dealership will sell you what you need for a little under a fiver. Also you'll need to pickup a aerial amplifyer, again not too expensive from the dealership.

A hacksaw blade snapped in half, poked into the two small holes on the sides of the headunit will pop it out, or you can ask nicely at the dealership if they will use their keys to pop it out (mine did it for me the first time, but refused to sell me any keys for it!), the keys Halfrauds will try and sell you won't fit.

I did forget something though, if you are fitting an aftermarket stereo in it you'll need to change a couple of wires over on the back of it. You'll find on the wireing that you get with your stereo there will be (usually) two wires that have bullet connectors on them (the red and yellow ones), you'll need to unplug them both and swap them over. The german cars (Audi, VW, Skoda etc) have the live feed and ignition feed backwards, it won't damage your stereo not swapping them over, it just won't hold any settings every time you switch the ignition off.
