Met black octy, PITA to keep clean?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Do they suffer from carwash scratches etc, constantly needing to be washed?

I think all metallic black cars are the same, you need plenty of time to keep 'em looking squeaky clean.

Yup, pain in the butt to keep clean, but worth it !

Black car is harder to keep looking clean than a white car!

Sure does, its a pain. I wish I had chosen a different colour instead, I'll never have another black car.

(You can buy mine if you love black cars!)

there is one on trader at the moment with satnav for 5k, but tbh I should wait until another colour appears!!

Not if you don't use a car wash :p If you do big miles, don't buy black. Black cars also show stone chips much worse IMHO.

Having said all that, a shiny black car is nice! B)

Mine is showing a few chips and scratches, but some touch-up paint soon fixes that. And come the summer I'll be getting the machine polisher out

Only ever had 2 black cars and ive had over 100 cars. Real PITA to keep clean.

Pale metalic paint is the best if you want the car to look clean if its not with silver being the best. IMHO

Not being funny but 100 cars? Did you really own any of them long enough to bother washing them frequently?

Constantly, yes. Looks good when clean, but doesn't stay that way for long :'(

Ive been driving 24 years mate and i get bored very easy.

I have been running company cars for the last 9 years doing 50k a year and ive still had at least 20 cars of my own in that time.

The insurance companys love me.lol

Oh and then theres the motorbikes as well.

Just cant help myself.

I'd never take my car through a car wash - any colour will end up with scratches.

Amen to that-you might as well take wet & dry paper to it.....yes, even those "soft" car washes.

My mk 1 octy vrs was black & it looked great in summer all polished up but soon looked sorry for its self when the weather turned.Mine had done a lot of miles when i got rid & the bonnet & front wings were covered in stone chips & i had to use the t-cut black polish to keep it looking good. It does show every mark on the bodywork. I would never buy a black car again. :)

Likewise had 1 black and 2 white cars, they look stunning when they are clean - BUT only when they are clean, which is not for long.

You only really notice how dirty a silver car is when you wash it :o

Never really understood those who complain about black cars.

I have both a black and white car, they both show the dirt just as quickly and need washing just as often.

So 20 cars of your own + 9 company cars (to be extremely generous) in the last nine years....so you had 71 cars in the previous 15 years.

Sure you didn't just get rid of them when they needed a wash? :D
