Opening boot with engine running

Featured Replies

On my VRS i have the automatic locking of the doors after you drive off. When I stop with the engine still running and the doors unlocked via the button on the drivers door you cannot open the boot. If i turn the engine off i can then open the boot. I can kinda see this a security thing, is this normal? Can it be disabled with VAGCOM?

It's normal, probably so you don't choke on black soot while you're getting out your Tesco shopping. You probably can disable it but dunno why you'd need or want to.

Every morning I pick up two people and they put their bags in the back of the car. Each time I have to turn off the car and the restart it. Not a biggy but would just be a bit easier if i didnt have to :)

I think it opens the boot with the key in if you just use the handle from the inside and pull it twice.

It's if the drivers door isn't opened I think. In theory, if someone else is loading into the boot, but it won't open, you'll be able to open it as long as the drivers door is realsed, even with the engine on (I think).

If you double pull your handle to open your drivers door, the whole central locking system opens, therefore the boot opens too.

It does if you have that auto-locking feature enabled, where the car locks when travailing over 10mph. I had that feature disabled as it annoyed me.

However my boot locks if I have the engine running and don't open my door. You can open all other doors but not the boot. I guess this stops people opening your boot a steeling what's in it when you are stopped in the road (eg at traffic lights). :wonder:

Read the manual:

"The function of the hand grip above the licence plate is deactivated when

starting off or as of a speed of more than 5 km/hour for vehicles with central

locking. The function of the hand grip is activated again when the vehicle has

stopped and a door is opened"

So instead of turning the engine off, just open your door and close it again...

No - you're getting confused here. The auto-lock function is irrelevant here - it's the double click function that's relevant - i.e. if you click once it only unlocks the driver's door with another click being necessary to unlock the other doors - this can be deactivated with VAGCOM.

Ah ha!

It's kind of annoying but I can see why it's in place, I pulled up outside Asda the other day picking my mate up and he couldn't open the boot and even though I tried unlocking it with the key nothing would happen so I had to turn off the car which I didn't want to do as I had absolutely cained it there!

The button on the key doesn't operate when the ignition is on:

The boot lid can also be opened by pressing on the button on the remote control

with the ignition switched off.

Thanks all

This has been really useful for me, as I had the same problem before. Last night I picked two friends up from the train station. Simply opened a door and the boot opened first time.

Thanks again to the knowledge of Briskoda ;)

That is what I was trying to say. I have got the auto-locking feature disabled, but the boot is still locks itself (even with all doors are unlocked) and does not open until I open the drivers door.
