Potential 1.4 16V

Featured Replies

alright chaps and chappetts!

Iv been driving a fab 1.4 8v for a year now and think its smart, but im startin to crave a bit more power and get the impression that tuning/improving my current car is a waste of time and money with little power gain.

Ideally id like to get a fab TDI but im a bit restricted cash wise, so thought id maybe be able to get the 1.4 16v?

what bhp are they as standard and what bhp could i manage realistically?

Lee

The 1.4 16v comes with about 100bhp as standard - in terms of modifying, you're faced with much the same options/costs/restrictions as you would be with the 1.4 8v. It's only really cars with turbos which can get large performance gains for relatively little money...

100bhp isn't that bad in a (petrol) fabia. You just have to know it's limits and not expect to be as fast as a vRS ;)

A TDi would be more tuneable, I believe?

Yep, either the 1.4-75bhp or 1.9-100bhp engines can be tuned very easily, either via an eBay tuning box (25%-30% claimed improvement) or via a full on remap (40-50% improvement). There seem to be plenty of 2000/2001 TDI's about - what's your budget and we might be able to find you one :D

The 1.4 16v lump in the Octy is a quickish combination so in the smaller Fabia it well be a really good match. Should imagine a good trade off between power and economy.

get a 2.0 litre 8v :D

I believe you can get second hand Y plate TDIs for around

Different power output. The Octavia used the 75bhp version used in the Fabia automatic and not the 100bhp version.

What do you want from the car? For tunability, go for the 100bhp Tdi. For a bit of fun, 100bhp 1.4 16v, for a comforting cruiser 2,0l 115bhp.

I was sure the 1.4 16v was 100bhp on the Octy oh well the 100bhp in the Fabia will fly.
