Tesco fuel - hidden price rise

Featured Replies

From 1 November you only get 1 clubcard point for every £2 of fuel...

(and something else I've just discovered - "Non-fuel purchases at petrol filling station - Collect 1 point for every £1 spent" rather than 2 in store...)

With Tesco rewards vouchers being only worth 3x instead of 4x shortly (6 Dec) it's clear they're having trouble financing such benefits.

Simple answer then David, don't buy cheap petrol from Tesco's!

 Wouldn't touch supermarket fuel with a very long barge pole. Has always made my cars run like a bag o' spanners.

Cheers

Dave.

Yeah cos we all know supermarket fuel is watered down nats **** like night club lager  Tescos 99 ron and std deisal never cause me any bother in any of the vRS's I have run.

As for Tescos, if they wanted to save money they could try scrapping sending out 'statements every 3 months and 2 pound of advertising ****e. Might not be in my best interest as a posty but it must cost them a fortune! If you have points on your card then you must visit the store, if you visit the store you could see any advertising special offers, wheen they scan your card you could be offered the opportunity to redeem the points on it or to add to them, simples and much more cost effective!

Just my personal experience when using Asda, Morrisons and Tesco diesel in both our vRS's.

Not that I have a Sainsbury nearby but how does the Nectar points bonus compare to the tesco one (now it has come down in benefit?)

I only buy petrol from Tesco when i have a 5p off a liter voucher.

Postmanpat,

I've posted this in the past on here, but shall repeat myself.

My father was a Bulk Plant manager at an Esso depot, but they used to fill lots of other companies tankers, from Shell to Tesco's.

When a tanker logged in to fill it's load this was then "dispensed". As the tank was filled various additives were included depending on who the buyer was.

These include:

retailers dye,

tax paid dye, for diesel,

tax paid chemical trace, for diesel,

Additives, which were rarely specified by the supermarkets:

cleaners,

diesel anti-smoke

diesel anti-foaming.

Sorry, but Tesco's and others do not supply the same "stuff" you can buy from the main stream retailer. The basic fuel will al be to the relevant BS level, but that is where it stops.

+1

Only ever buy diesel from Tesco and my VRS runs spot on.

Your point being??

I am buying fuel of a set RON to a set std. If I want worthless addatives I will buy redex.

If I want placebos I will take smarties rather than Asprin.

Having driven both a deisal and a petrol vRS on both supermarket and Vpower/ Vmax fuels I have failed to see any differance in performance or economy. All my cars have been std maps, but unless a car is mapped for a specific fuel I doubt there will be a differance so long as the std is met.

The difference I found was that the crap at the bottom of their storage tank killed the carb on my MK2 Golf because they'd let it run low. Regardless of the differences in the fuel, I'm not conviced that supermarkets manage their filling stations to the same degree - when fuel is your core business you *have* to get it consistently right.

My Fabia VRS runs on Super Market fuel, I collect Nectar Points. Our other car (scoob) also fills up at the same Super Market. Both cars are un moddified and are driven like any other. The only time his car has run on Shell 98 ron was either to attend a meet or R/R session.

By the same argument given the volume of sales and the fact it isn't their core business I would suspect that a supermarket is less likely to maximise the amount of fuel they get out of their tanks, though to be honest arguing either way is two much of a generalisation .

I've had no problems with supermarket fuel in any car. I used to go to Tesco because the points made it cheaper - perhaps I'll just go to whoever www.petrolprices.com reckons is cheapest in future...

Postmanpat,

I was just giving you some facts, nothing more.

I was just showing you why Tesco and other supermarkets can sell fuel cheaper because they leave out some of the additives.

You might not find it relevant, but others do. I certainly find the lack of anti-foaming additives to diesel a nuisance when filling up, and I have also found that my previous diesel smoked more when I used supermarket fuel.

It's a free country and you can do what you want, I have no problem with that.

D15VRS,

I get Nectar points when I buy BP fuel.

1 point (but only worth 0.5p) per litre - **** basically

I bothered as I had a Sainos cc too. In general Nectar is poor unless there is some obscure, hidden away benefit I've been missing for years. But Tesco as a supermarket sucks monkey balls so basically stuck.
