I Now Have A vRS

Featured Replies

After nearly two years of owning a MK2 1.4TDi Sport I have finally PX for a 05 MK1 vRS. I had been looking for something a little more fun to drive, Ive recently got a new job so dont require that I do many more miles. So the car would be more lesuire than anything else. I had looked at many car in the process including a fiesta st. When at farmers in nottingham a silver fabia vRS had popped up. Went to have alook and was truly astonished at the condition, its a true credit to the former owner. Took it for a spin and loved every minute of owning it since. With pictures to come shortly once the weather has recovered

I had noticed that the car had a small Revo sticker on the passenger side window, I asked the salesmen if he said the car had been remapped by the above company, he replied that the previous owner had done just that. Ether way content with the car, I wasnt bothered ether way if it had been remapped or not. Once I got back home I chucked the keys to my dad to let him have a blast in her to see what he thought, he previously had a 03 Furby vRS in yellow :D He commented the power felt identical to his, and that assumed it hadnt been remapped, so it was ether that previous owner did remap and then revert to standard, it had never been and there was just a random sticker on the car, or that it had been remapped and made no real diffrence to the car at all. He did however comment on the lack of body roll and the general plantered feel of my car compared to his. My vRS has no chassis modifications at all!

So as well as hello to the world of MK1 ownership, is there any way to real work out if the car has been remapped with out booking it on the rollers, for example my little 1.4TDi had been remapped and the power bands were completely diffrent to the standard car. As ive mentioned am not to bothered about if it has XXXXXbhp or that it can do 0-62 in blah blah blah. Just would be intresting to know if she has been done

Sorry for my lenghtly introduction and essay :)

Cheers mate, ive been trying to take the car gently to get used to driving a car with such a high amount of torque. And the times I have given it some pasty in 3rd it does shoot up quickly but ive been changing gear at about 3 - 3.5k. Which is at about 70mph. Just because am unsure of the sweet spots. Ive always been told not to boot up to the redline as theres no point. Do you get to 80-90 at a higher rpm?

Thank you

Can you get vag-com plugged in to log boost pressure? Standard is 1.35bar.

Not to sound stupid but were and how

Mine was mapped when I bought it, the previous owner said it wasn't.

If it pulls well right up to 4-4500 revs then I'd say it's probably mapped.

In my case I had to organise a rolling road day to get a cheap run in order to find

out for certain. Performance figures were as per my sig. Definitely mapped :D

Don't boot it under 2k until you find out for sure. If it is mapped then that won't do the

flywheel or clutch much good. I try and keep my revs above 2k at all times as I've recently

forked out £600 for a new clutch and flywheel for mine and I'd like to try and make this one last a bit.

Welcome to the vRS massive ;)

Welcome - great fun aren't they?

Main difference after my remap apart from the better performance is it still pulls to much higher RPM than before. Before it kind of surged then dropped off quite quickly. It now feels more like a petrol.

Thanks for the welcome guys

I think the best option might be to pop her on the rollers.

Welcome to the club, and glad you've got a car you enjoy. One reason to be bothered about whether it's been mapped or not is insurance.

Scenario: You have a ding, insurance check the car over, find it's been mapped, which invalidates your insurance as you didn't declare it. They don't pay out; you're screwed. "I didn't know" isn't going to be a defence that would work, I don't think.

Check out the part of this site re diagnostics, to see if someone nearby has VW diagnostics, and as already been mentioned, monitor the boost pressure. Best to find out one way or another, as you need to inform your insurance, and maybe alter your driving style to take into account the map.

You don't have to declare material facts that you don't know about, er, because you don't know about them :giggle: .

The insurance company would have to prove that you knew the car had been remapped.

This is true

Its more on were the car stands performance wise, I would like to do some tasteful modifications to. And of course on everyones to buy list is a remap. ether way drives like a dream.

You may well be right, I'm no expert on insurance. All I know is the gits will use any excuse not to pay out.

Agree with you there.
