Cambelt on VRS TFSI

Featured Replies

I've been looking for a 3-4 year old VRS - I'm getting so many different opinions on when the cambelt needs to be changed !

Can someone confirm 100% when the cambelt should be changed ?

thanks

4years or 60k whichever come first and get a water pump fitted as well!!!

As above, if it hasn't been changed you need to factor a discount of £320-£350

cheers - if it has not been changed as per schedule does this cause problems in the future ?

Only if it breaks while driving in which case it will be a complete engine rebuild. So if not been done but not broken make sure you get some money off the asking price so you can get it changed yourself.

From my service book it says to check condition quite frequently, but replace at 150000km for diesel and 180000km for petrol. I have an 07 petrol VRS.

I would agree with pilotwoo, go by what the car manual says, if it breaks then you have it in writing when the parts should be changed.........................

Having said that I expieriance a cambelt break (under warranty) in a Volvo 740 petrol, about 10 years ago - the dealer said the parts alone would have cost abot £.5k! But the Volve and Skoda are very different.

For peace of mind I would contact Skoda UK (in writing, not by phone) and ask them if the recommended change time has been amended.

I would not ask the Skoda dealer, they are there to make a profit where they can - generally speaking of course!

I don't think you can go by what the manual says, that was only true when it was printed and since then it appears VAG have adopted the 4 year rule.

Personally I also go along with the 60k or 4 years whichever is sooner.

its definately 4 yrs or 60k, its changed since the manual came out, ive just had mine done by a local vag specialist for £270 inc water pump.

please dont leave it to chance my last car snapped on me at 5000rpm and it was like running into a wall(not a nice experience).
