Tyre Pressure check

Featured Replies

Just a quickie, checked all the tyre pressures on my vRS and on SWMBO's Fabia this morning, all down by about 5psi

Seems to be the cold weather affecting them, so may be worth checking them out....

Steve

Is there a site which tells you the correct pressures for different sizes of wheels/tyres??

i currently have 205/45/16's, what should they be at, i usually run 32psi...

It usually tells you in ur handbook under tyres, or on the inside of your filler flap.

But i'm running 16's, not the standard 14's B)

I'm hoping the tyre pressure monitor works on my vRS and will alert me whenever the pressure is incorrect. I'll maybe check them and see if all is indeed ok.

Aha, didnt notice that sorry, I wouldnt have thought that there would be a standard between wheels and tyres, due to differing weights of cars etc

Or, I could be talking gibberish... :giggle:

Generally, I have always filled to about 32 anyways, which is better than the 26.5psi that was in them all this morning......

Steve

Tyre Size Front (BAR) Front (PSI) Rear (BAR) Rear (PSI)

205/45W16 2.3 BAR 33 PSI 2.2 BAR 31 PSI

195/50V15 2.1 BAR 30 PSI 2.2 BAR 31 PSI

Tyre Size Front (BAR) Front (PSI) Rear (BAR) Rear (PSI)

165/70T14 2.2 BAR 31 PSI 2.0 BAR 29 PSI

185/60T14 2.2 BAR 31 PSI 2.0 BAR 29 PSI

195/50H15 2.1 BAR 30 PSI 2.1 BAR 30 PSI

Both fabia's, top VRS, bottom 1.4 16v, both different size wheels but then again, different weights, think i'll stay at 32psi

TPM does not work in a way that will tell you if they are all low.

The TPM only really notifies you if there's a change in pressure in one tyre compared to the rest (it works on the fact that that wheel will rotate at a different speed from the rest). So if all tyres are losing pressure at an equal rate it won't warn you....

Simple Physics ( rember Boyles Law etc at School ) assuming all things equal and remove constants pV=T

As the volume of the tyre is also constant if T(emperature) goes down then P(ressure) must go down

TPM is utter rubbish. I have had to have a new tyre because of a puncture, thats how slow it is at realising. Also when i put my winters on yesterday I forgot to reset it and it took a good 7 miles to tell me to check my tyres...

I'm starting to think I shouldn't rely on my TPM!!!

Usually all factory options are included in either the manual or on the filler cap?

nothing replaces a human for peace of mind

+1, also had to replace a tyre on previous car, although once or twice it has warned me of a nail & loss of pressure.

Mine were at about 24 and I just bought the car. Would have thought they'd have checked the tyres before handing it over!

I lost 9psi in one and 6psi in another and nothing from the TPM. It's basically a POS and can be safely ignored.

+1 but people will because they have it! If you are going to have one VAG should have put sensors in the wheels.
