Having read both this thread and few 'pumpe duse vs common rail' threads elsewhere on the net, I'm starting to feel a bit dubious about the supposed merits of common rail technology vs PD, and dpfs sound like a pain in the posterior. Much as I would like a new Fab estate, I think I'll be sticking with my '08 model and its 130 horses of PD diesel power for some time yet...

Hi marginwalker, when I started this post I was very uncertain of the cr tdi as I have always had pd tdi,I am driving 2 pd now superb2 and a little 1.4tdi furby and I agree its a good system although flawed like most engines, however I have warmed to the cr engine as I believe it will be a better engine now because of the work the other VAG group of manufacturers have no doubt ironed out a lot of the problems they had, before passing the engine forward to skoda I remember talking to an audi tech/engineer about the 1.6tdi they were unvailing in the showroom and he said yes they did have problems at vw with the engines an ecu problem initially but cured now?,he did say as well that the VAG group tends to give the engine to the lower member last to get a better foothold on the sales first so most of the problems have gone before skoda ever gets hold of the engines, dont know if this is true but seemed to know what he was talking about!,I will await my new furby elegance 105 1.6CR tdi early next year or 11plate.I will however be sad to see the superb going but the economics tell me its the right thing to do,even though it'll sting a bit for a while!!,I will be keeping the 1.4tdi PD for pootling about but on longish journrys will use the crB)
