Misting Up BADLY!

Featured Replies

Now, those of you who have read my previous posts will know my Superb leaks, I have seen water dripping down from under the glovebox. So there is water in the car somewhere is making it mist up badly! I have tried to find it but cannot! I have pulled the carpet up and that is dry to the touch, and my pollen filter isn't wet anymore - whereas it was a while back.

What I would like to know is how many of you have really misty / misted up Superb's at this time of year, which takes an age to clear. I am trying to guage how common this problem is.

Regards

Do you wash your car frequently?, if so, then you will probably have some residual moisture will probably be present around the fresh air intakes and it will take a while for it to dry out in this colder weather . I have the same problem after the car is washed and it goes away after a few days.

I have had no problems with damp carpets by the way.

My superb is no worse than my previous octy, and the windows clear within a couple of minutes.

My car is bone dry inside, but I do feel that it mists more and takes longer to clear than my previous A4 Avant. On the other hand it has a much larger interior volume to heat/dry.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I don't wash that car that frequently at all, and never leave anything inside the car that is damp. I am at a loss as to how this happens! My carpets feel dry to the touch, but the amount of water that condenses to the windscreen when the temperature drops amazes me! I had a SEAT Leon a few years ago and that was a nightmare, so I know what to look for, door seals etc, yet these are also dry and working correctly!

I have noticed water dripping in from under the glovebox, and it went back for this to be checked, but they found 'nothing', all plenum / scuttle areas at the base of the windscreen are clear from leaves and other debris. Maybe this is just one unlucky car on that front!

Have you checked around the windscreen for leaks etc.

Other half had a brand new Focus once, and after a couple of months we could hear water inside the car although the carpet seemed dry at first. Further investigation found several inches of water in the rear foot wells under the carpet that did slowly start to seep upwards and make the carpet damp.

It turned out that the windscreen had a leak on the seal, that in turn was running into a channel of the body and not coming out until it reached the back of the car.

I also had an Astra that misted up and would not clear even with the blower full on. This turned out to be because the pollen filter was moist, so all I was doing was heating moist air. I know you said that your pollen filter now seems dry, but is it 100% bone dry. I would be inclined to buy a new filter and put it in one morning when the car is damp, run it from brand new out of the box and see if the car clears much quicker.

Was a 100% fix for my Astra, unsure why it did it, never did it again, and the car also got hotter inside.

Yes the pollen filter was my first point of call, and it has been replaced.

I am sure it is 100% bone dry now. My reckoning is that water drains through the air intake under the scuttel panel where the air intake is for the pollen filter, down the bulkhead and just seeps under the carpet. The problem with the air intake for the cabin is, It is not an easy thing to remove, whereas the one in the Superb 1 I had previously was easy to remove (comparitively).

I am beyond annoyed with this car now, and am seriously considering getting rid of it!

How long have you had the car?

Any chance of rejecting it? It's obviously not fit for purpose.

If water has been leaking in for a while I doubt you'll ever get rid of the horrid damp smell from wet carpets.

There is obviously still water in the car due to the excess condensation.

Bung a dehumidifier in it for a few days??

I agree, Any moisture in the car from before will not dry out very quickly at this time of the year. Worth a try to see what it actually collects.

I got one you can borrow, if you near me
