Parking Sensor Issue

Featured Replies

I've got factory fitted parking sensors on my VRs however they only seems to work like 1 in 10 times. Most of the time when I put it in reverse I just get 1 long beep followed by a short one and that is it.

Is this a common fault and an easy fix?

Thanks

David

Firstly they're not factory fit but rather dealer fit - and since reversing sensors on Fabias are pretty rare (mine's the only car I've seen them on) it's difficult to say whether it's common or not. They were on the car when I bought it and surprisingly I've found them very useful!

Secondly check out this topic - whilst it's a different car it might be the problem and the solution. I'd suggest it might not actually be the sensor that's internally faulty - make sure they're clean too and the wiring connections are making properly before replacing the sensor

I too have a fabia with dealer fitted parking sensors, they were on the car when I purchased it. During dry warm weather they're a great advantage to have but sadly when it rains heavilly or the temp drops to 3or 4'c or below, the warning sound is on constantly while reversed gear is selected. As I have to reverse up a fairly long narrow road at home this gets VERY annoying. I had the car back to the dealer under warrenty but they said there was nothing wrong with them.

While really obvius and I assume you'll have done this already - do the reverse lights always come on?

Otherwise I'd guess the reversing switch might be at fault.

... but isn't the reversing sensor control box triggered by the reversing light feed? And thus if it's making a noise the switch must be working?

It would be I assume, yes! Misread the OP - ignore that advice!

Me too, is my car rare then?

Me too, but they give a constant beep when I'm still at least 2 inches from the car behind. One reason I bought the Fabia was the ability to park in small spaces - great after a Honda Accord! If the space is very tight, I usually dispatch the wife to bash on the boot when I'm down to about 1/4 inch from the obstruction.

Sorry, no suggestions, mine emitted a constant beep whilst frozen in the recent cold snap, but otherwise have performed as expected. They also give warning of obstacles to the rear quarters which I find useful.

Just re-reading this the main reasons why I bought the Fabia were to travel quickly, inexpensively and unobtrusively with a constant smile,;I don't really want to park it very much!

Mine appear to give a constant beep when I'm about 300mm from an obstruction - plenty close enough for me. I wouldn't want it only 50mm away...

If they're anything like the kit I have from Mazda but never fitted, the trigger point for the constant tone can be adjusted...

Sorry David, mine do start a constant beep at about 6 inches (or 150mm - am I showing my age?). I was just trying to be humorous about how close you can get to an obstacle, the clue was meant to be in the word "still". I am a fan, though, it beats the old method of parking by touch.

My octy did this last year, it was a faulty sensor, although it was done under warranty so it went to stealers to be done, not sure of a cost to diagnose / replace?

It's possible in this cold weather that some ice has formed around one of the sensors causing the long beep. Did the sensors work correctly when the dealer first fitted them? My wife's Mk1 had factory or dealer fitted sensors and they never gave any problems. I have fitted a set to her MkII and these are also working OK.

Today I had the long beep on my Octy sensors and I found some snow and ice around one sensor, so I'm hoping this is the problem.
