Question for an Oil Expert?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Found this oil which seems VERY cheap! I need to change the oil and filter at the end of the month as I'm going away for a bit and want the car to have some 'fresh blood' before I go as the wife will be using it all the time.

Question is:Would you recommend it for my Octavia 1.9 TDi (ALH)?

Any views on the above welcomed! ;)

Many thanks in advance

I wouldnt say inc postage that is exceptionally cheap, VWs on brand Quantum oil is cheaper, and personally although technically ok id prefer 10w40 in the TDi engine.

Is that from the dealers?, if not can you point me in the right direction? ;)

yeah from any vag dealer

Site sponsor opi oils might stock it.

Why do you say that Ross?

Wouldn't the 5 be handy what with things getting colder?

That's what I thought too? :S

As I remember 1.9 TDI PD needs VW 505.01 , which will be probably a 5w-40 full synthetic...but this one is just 502.00 505.00.

Maybe, but mine aint PD  it's 505.00 or 507.00 for me IIRC.

Anyone using 505.0 oil for a PD engine is asking for trouble - This oil doesn't contain the high shear strength additives required for a PD engine. Expect higher than normal camshaft wear if you do use this oil for PD engines . For PD engine normal fixed interval service ( 12 months/10K miles) only oil to spec 505.01 should be used, or for variable long life service oils 506.01 or 507 should be used.

AC Delco is part as of GM and GM 5w-30 was Mobil 1 manufactured. So I presume anyway if is not Mobil 1 will still be made by a big oil manufacturer. That doesn't mean that it is the same quality, maybe less aditives and so on...Now I used once GM 5w-30 Full Synthetic and it seemed too thin for me...Sorry for the mistake with PD, I thought that all were PD in 2005...

Why don't you get Quantum Platinum 5w-40 which is more suitable for TD on fixed service, it is few pound more but you can order other stuff to eg oil filter, air filter...I get them from www.vwspares.co.uk
