Coolant level in brand new Octy

Featured Replies

Hello,

I picked my brand new Octy a few days ago. When I picked it up, I checked the coolant level and it was near the Max line. About 2/3 of the way between Min and Max.

I checked the coolant level today, and it's was just a notch above the Min line. The car has 800 Km.

Tomorrow I'll top up the coolant and monitor it from there but I wanted to know if it's ok for a new car to have the coolant level drop like that in the first few Km?

Thanks,

krko

Never ever had to top up coolant on my Skud or my previous cars (mazda etc.) It should be max when you collected it, take it back, they should at least top it up, its brand new!

Coolant levels would only drop if there was a leak, I think? I've only had to top cars up when there's been a problem.

You're basically right but I highly doubt it there's a leak. My brother's wife brand new Peugeot did the same after a few hundred Km and since topping up the level never changed.

My logic tells me that in a new engine after first few Km the coolant reaches all the places it should reach, the pipes expand, etc, and therefore the level might slightly drop from what it appeared when you picked the car. I checked the level the first time with 6 Km on it.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I assumed.

Ah. I hadn't thought about that. Makes sense!
