Advice About ICE Install Please

Featured Replies

Need some advice on an ice install.

I have a Mk1 Skoda Octavia SLXi, I want to put in 2 x 10" subs but I wanted to know is there anywhere I can buy a complete set of component speakers for the car, to replace all the speakers in there, I can only find sets with like 2 speakers.

Cheers

Need some advice on an ice install.

I want to put in 2 x 10" subs but I wanted to know is there anywhere I can buy a complete set of component speakers .... to replace all the speakers in there,

A set of component speakers consists of two tweeters, 2 mid-bass speakers and 1 crossover.

if you want to install all round then you buy 2 sets. Simple.

There really is no need for 2 sets though.

If you want a good quality sound then buy a set of components for the front, one 12" sub. instead of 2 x 10", and a 4-channel amp.

Run the front components off 2 channels, run the sub off the other 2 channels (bridged to mono.)

Rear speakers spoils the sound quality for those sitting in front (by dragging the sound-stage rearwards) but if you insist on speakers in the rear for fill-in, then keep the standard speakers in place and use the head-unit to drive them.

On top of this you should also consider a new head unit and fitting sound-deadening to the front doors to get the most performance from your new component speakers. It makes a huge difference.

Ah nice one mate, thanks :) I have a good headunit, just the rest of it I need to change, I went for 2 10" subs because I thought the bass would be tighter than a 12, but do you think a 12 would give a nice punchy bass?

Cheers

...... do you think a 12 would give a nice punchy bass?.....

Sure. It would also give you a balanced sound with your new front components.

I assumed you wanted a sound-quality install.

If you are a bass-head then I'm not qualified on SPL! :giggle:

lol :) To be honest the sound quality is paramount, but didn't want a loose bass in the rear. Will go for the single 12 then I think :)

....... Will go for the single 12 then I think.......

Good move.

And don't forget to sound-deaden the doors !

Yeah I will do mate, they don't sound too good at the best of times, hopefully that will help with that, want a nice quality sound. :)

Just wanted to ask if this would work for the time being.

I have a 400W amp and sub in the boot, well got it today, got the fun job of fitting it tomorrow.

Anyway would it be ok, to use the head unit to run the speakers in the car and let the sub do its own thing, I am worried about the sub drowning out the other speakers
