Why spend the extra on Elegance instead of SE.....

Featured Replies

As per the title. I would have gone for Elegance in order to get the folding mirrors but now it's looking like folders aren't included, as at first thought. See other current threads.

The question of leather seats you guys have covered for me, for which I'm grateful. Heated seats wouldn't be a concern if I went SE with cloth seats. Different wheels don't bother me either way. Ditto phone equipment or boarding spots in the mirrors, (WOULD MUCH PREFER FOLDERS !) I'm having DSG which includes ESP, I believe, as well as Hill Control, so not a consideration. I'd have Light Assist to raise the mirror and the rain sensor doesn't trouble me much either way.

Johann, 900000, mentioned that there are other goodies on Elegance not mentioned in the brochure.....different horn, drawer under the front seat I believe. Perhaps there are others. He mentions cup holders and armrests in the rear middle seat and I can't see whether that's an Elegance thing or comes with lower specs?

That only leaves the upgraded lighting on Elegance and I've never felt need for cornering lights, but what you've never had......etc.

Have I missed a load of stuff , or maybe the leather, electrically operated and heated seats with a memory function, plus the memory on the mirrors (for reverse parking) are worth it on their own? (If going Elegance, I'd still have the £500 seat/mirror pack, I think).

I know I'm asking a lot here but you've done so well recently in making sense of it all, I'd be pleased to hear from you.

Thanks, again, in advance.

PS. I don't believe that anyone in SUK Marketing or Customer Service reads any of this stuff otherwise they'd have sorted that perishing brochure out and increased their sales and reduced the number of people ringing them to ask questions that should be answered in the brochure.

We had the same thoughts as you when choosing SE, didn't want leather seats, phone eqpt, etc, but went for heated cloth seats with lumbar support(great!), light assistant. Cup holders in the rear centre seat came as standard, and overall we are very happy with our choice. I can understand people getting annoyed, our Golf Plus SE came with electric folding and reversing dip door mirrors as standard, but no electric seats. I'm sure Skoda could do the same and offer electric folding mirrors without the electric seats, it's the only thing we miss!

Hi oldstan,

as you are aware I'm in the process of changing my Monster and the original plan was to get like for like (SE 140 with options) plus the heated screen and seats.

However it dawned on me with all the options I'd like on the SE 140 I was very very close to the price of an Elegance 110 4x4. After getting the cost to change price from James, I also realised that a substantial chunk of depreciation on my now sadly former Yeti were the options I had fitted :S

Therefore after careful thought and discussion with James I went for the Elegance, although I did option this to :giggle: heated screen, RRP, TPM and a spare  but a lot cheaper than what I'd have had fitted to the SE. So hopefully next time round I will not feel I thrown to much away on extras, as this time there already built into the price of the specification if you get my meaning.

Hope this is of help rather than causing more exasperation.

Regards,

TP

Guess most buy the Elegance over the SE for the leather trim, bi-xenons & possibly hands free telephone. Those three items alone would cost nearly £2700 to upgrade the SE. The Elegance would also be worth more come selling time.

Horses for courses.

TP makes some very valid points about the options, you wont get a penny more when you come to sell the car, but it will make it a bit more desirable.

Another thing to consider is that VW are trying to get Skoda to reduce the std spec of the cars as currently they are taking too many sales away from VW - this obviously has nothing to do with the fact that a Superb is a better built car than a Passat! :giggle:

Yes, I do get your meaning. And it helps....and causes the latter too, although only in mild proportions : -)

Is there, to the best of your knowledge, much missing from the Elegance spec. in the brochure, ie. the dual tone horn, under seat storage as mentioned by Johann? By way of example, the 'Glasses storage' is unclear isn't it? It says it's only on Elegance but I suspect the storage tray with a hinged lid on the upper dash is what they mean, and I saw that on an SE!

All this is just me trying to justify whether to spend the extra on something without the feature I thought was included originally and wondering which is the better buy. If the SE had 16" wheels then that would be something further to chew on, but it doesn't so at least we don't have to lose sleep on that one.

I went for the Elegance I think for the seats and headlights, and while the seats are lovely, bloody hell the bi-xenon are amazing!!!

The lights are ruddy fantastic on the elegance, in my opinion best party trick of the yeti.

The glasses holder is above the interior mirror.

Hi again,

believe the SE has the duel tone horn as well but never used it on PAT so I cannot say for sure :wonder: and besides the things mentioned an auto dimming drivers wing mirror I think is about it.

From what your saying my advice on reflection would be; if you want just a odd one or two low cost options and are not to fussed about fancy lights, seats etc. then save your 2K and get the SE. Only go for the Elegance if it makes life easier - do a lot of night driving, have kids and or dogs and need easy wipe down seats etc. or your planning on raiding the SE options list big time as I was.

edit; yes storage box under front passenger seat only

"The glasses holder is above the interior mirror". .............

Well I didn't know that. Ta.

And is there a dual tone horn and under passenger seat storage?

Opinions on the lights duly noted.

Things I always appreciate in a Yeti-

  • Headlights (They are brilliant)
  • Leather seats
  • Heated Seats
  • Bluetooth (I find it extremely useful)

The other bits I don't notice so much but they are still good.

Is that SE , Elegance or both?

Mr.P has it in one . I too wanted the heated leather seats and xenons,so to order the Elegance was a no brainer . All the other Gizmos, whatever they all are, is just a bonus . I can't wait to see what you order Oldstan. You've had such lengthy and comprehensive advice . Yours must surely be " The definitive Yeti" ..... :smirk:

Thanks for thoughts re. Elegance. I too can't wait to see what I order. It gets closer though.

An SE with extras does not make an Elegance at sale time..

I wouldn't get too exited about the under seat storage box, it is tiny. I was hoping to be able to keep mt iPad in there but it is way off.

I went for the elegance because it was cheaper than the SE.....with all the bits I wanted.

Mike

As stated above I'd say get an SE with no more than £300's worth of options - lest you loose a lot come resale time, or get an Elegance (also with no more than £300's worth of options). I also started my buying process with an SE. But I wanted the leather alcantara seats. And they bring the SE to within £300 from an Elegance. Add Xenons and wham you are in silly territory. But you don't want leather so your options might just keep you in SE territory.

In my view the best value Yeti (sans options) would be a 110 TDI 2wd Elegance.
