Oil and coolant?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Got a couple of questions needing answered about my Octavia vRS

Q1. Why dose the coolant warning light come on everyday? I've checked the levels and everything is fine?

Q2. Dose the vRS use a lot of oil? I only got the car serviced a couple of months ago and when i checked the oil today it was very very low!!! Is this normal or do i have some sort of problem?

Cheers

Michael

A1. This happened to me, TO FIX- take off the plug sensor (on the side of the coolant tank) and make sure both male/female points are clean. I gave mine a thorough blow and wipe and all sorted.

A2. You may have a leak! top it up to the max level and keep a daily eye on it. My 05 plate with 50,000 miles does not use a drop, but ive heard upto a litre per 1000miles is not unusual!!

I'll give the sensor a clean and see if that dose the trick.

As for the oil i couldn't see any obvious signs of a leak! yeah I've already filled it up and I'm just gonna need to keep an eye on it!!

Yeah, coolant alarm is a common fault. If it comes on immediately you start the car, and you still have the right amount of coolant in the tank, then it's a spurious fault with the level sensor. You can clean the prongs of the sensor if you can get to the inside of the tank (some have a sort of weir inside), otherwise you'll need a new tank for about 12 quid.

As for losing oil, Skoda reckon anything up to a litre per 1000km is acceptable AFAICR. Oddly, until the radiator went on my wife's older, lower-spec car, it never lost ANY coolant or oil whereas mine lost a bit of both between services... :wonder:

Sounds Very similar to my VRS. Mines using about a litre of oil every 7-800 miles
