Just wondered as I know a handful of people (on this site...) who havent declared parts of their cars, some due to not getting round to it and others who dont want to afford it...

Also the number of people modding cars is so high now, and they seem to do it so quickly after buying a car I am wondering how many are driving with undeclared mods on their car. Obviously this has insurance issues...

As its not a public poll the results are anonymous. Just interested in numbers...

of course shouldn't mod your car if you cant afford to insure it, all mine are declared with adrian flux

Me too, and a declared power output of 300bhp, so I need some more work to get that extra 25 so I reach that threshold :D

i knew what i wanted to do to my car before i renewed my insurance, so i declared my entire mod list upfront and then fited them as and when i could.

All mods fully declared and listed. Declared as being insured for running 250bhp.

Policy is like for like so all parts are replaced as to what has been listed with them.

IMHO it's not worth taking the risk of not declaring as insurance companies will get out of paying up any way they can :S

In terms of extra power being more dangerous i dont think fluxes really care tbh.

The impression i get from them is modded car owners are generally more sensible and less likely to crash anyway. Infact they insure both my cars for less than a poo insurer like esure would insure the standerd versions of the cars for.

So I think declareing in that case your simply paying to reclaim the mods should you do a silly one day. And as such I happily give Flux my pennies and complete honesty. One year I even insured my car with Nitrous plumbed in (75 shot declared). Impact on the policy? about 20quid!

Mainstream insurers however like Esure Id have no concerns about not declaring (within reason) as all they would do is use it as oppertunity to make money. Not that id ever use a company as rubbish as esure of course. What extra youd pay for declaring a remap youd recover after the first 12months policy.

Am i allowed to say esure are rubbish?

i was fully declared when i wrote the black one off for like for like replacement but this all goes out the window when they write it off a big con you will only get what the value of the car is without mods unless you have paid the extra premium for an agreed value wich 99% havent

it the biggest scam ever and has really annoyed me that we who abide by the rules get stung big time

I allways declare, and get a like for like replacement policy, the golf is insured on a classic policy with all mods declared and 300bhp, limited to 5000 miles per year with a mutually agreed payout of 7500 if its a total loss, Its gone up to147quid a year this year, strangley i don't feel like i being done

Never knew about it, must have been done before I bought it :p

What's insurance?

Something that you need, "IF" your car is on the road, well I guess that rules yours out over the last year or so... :giggle:

Just a bump of this old thread.

I declare all mods on vehicles with Modifications from standard,

costs no extra and often can be less than covering a standard vehicle

All mine are declared, the one that strangely caused the issues wasn't the remap but the RARB which they initially said as a result of couldn't insure me with! I have a feeling they had it confused with a Roll Cage. After explaining at length and speaking with a supervisor it was covered! Didn't cost much more than the quote with no mods.

I declared mine as up to 25% more powah. Think it was £55 or £65 extra. Cant remember off top of my head.

I havent declared my colour coded grille tho. I doubt that would cause me too crash

ARE PEOPLE INSURING THESE CARS WITH THE NORMAL INSURERS OR SPECIALISTS.?

If someone is answering no to this poll, do you really want to be putting that out on an open forum!

and often can be less than covering a standard vehicle

Who is this god like insurer?

Good Honest thread! (Dishonest)

(Was Roadsure long ago)

Its about what you are insuring, Agreed Value, limited mileage etc

Just as it is with Insurance Brokers on this Forum that understand vehicles, modifying and tuning.

I must admit, my insurance on my felicia was cheaper with everything declared than it was on a totally standard vehicle... Figure that one out if you can..

the performance gain is far higher than any remap or turbo swap you can name, it doesn't make sense to me, engine transplants are a bit of a mystery in that respect.

Axa insurance

All my mods are insured on my vrs and for some reason it cheaper than the cheapest quote on comparison sites which i carn't get my head round but am not complaining,

Its insured through sky on here chaucer which reading the small print appears to be part of Lloyds group,

Chaucer wanted 3700 off me. Axa wanted 720 lol

My new Yeti in stock form was £480 with Admiral. (my current insurer)

But I went to Prestige (forum sponsor) and told them all my plans over the next few months like the big brakes and 300-320bhp turbo kit and I got it for £450...

I'm another all in declared, wouldn't do it any other way.

Again am speaking to forum sponsors and a full mods declared policy with future plans declared should hopefully not come out more than £400.00 based on quotes. Brakes, handling and power all covered.

Same as Admiral charged a year ago on a stock vRS
