Drive The Deal vs Dealer

Featured Replies

I'm looking to purchase a well 'specced' Octavia VRS DSG Estate in the very near future.

Naturally I visited local dealers with varying degrees of success & enthusiasm (from them ;) )

I then obtained a price from DTD & emailed the guide price to a half dozen dealers close to me. Some replied quickly stating they could not compete with the quote and others haven't replied.

However I received a call from a dealer today & he made it clear that he couldn't better the price but may get near. He then went on to say that Skoda had 'ordered' four Skodas through DTD & each time had their deposit refunded when DTD realised they couldn't supply the vehicle.

Generally I would treat this comment by the dealer with a healthy dose of both cynicism & suspicion, he wants me to purchase from him :wonder:

The general feedback from people on here is that DTD are very good.....but has anyone experienced or have knowledge of the problems suggested by the dealer?

I suspect his comment was selective & that it was that people cancelled because of the very long wait for delivery, & DTD probably said 12-16 weeks, when in reality youre looking @ 20- 26 weeks.

There will have been people cancelling from dealers as well around waiting times.

If / When youre going to order just expect at least a 20 week wait.

I contacted Steve Cantrell at Rainworth Skoda Mansfield yesterday regarding either a Octavia VRS CR 170 or L & K CR 140. I gave him the Drive the deal prices,he rang me back 2 hours later & said they would match the price to the penny & quoted 20 - 25 weeks delivery. Worth a call on 01623 623400......Good luck.

I had similar results when I priced up my Superb, some dealers do not even respond when you e-mail them regarding buying accessories! - at least I now know the ones to avoid (one such dealer is also supposedly highly regarded on here - yet two separate questions have gone ignored)

+1

I bought through DTD and had no problems at all, delivery was about 13 weeks, quoted 12 - 16. and that was while other on here were waiting 20 + weeks. ( a petrol vrs with a fair few optiosn on it)

Once ordered you deal with a skoda dealer anyway, picked up the car, no probs, very friendly. (my local dealer didnt even respond to my request for a quote)

TBH i'm a convert, obviously i can only speak from my own experience, but excellent.

Thanks for the advice

I've spoken to Rainworth (Steve wasn't in) & asked them to do their best

Only dealings you ever have with DTD is to place the order. Rest of contact is direct with the dealer, even paying the deposit. You pay the deposit to DTD however it is actually the dealer who takes the deposit and confirms that they have ordered the car etc... I have not spoke to DTD since the day I placed the order all my contact has been with th edealer.

Just go with DtD, the hard work to get best price is already done for you. DtD=

My experience with Rainworth and especially Steve C have been excellent. I would certaintly advise talking to him.

Have dropped you a pm about another dealer who will help

Great advice guys, thanks

Rainworth have called back & are about £150 away, although they would chuck in a tank of fuel & unfitted mudflaps.

I don't want to breach any rules on here but can anyone suggest who the DTD dealer is likey to be in the Midlands area?

It's normally a dealer in the South East rather than several dealers dotted around the country...

AFAIK they use Marlborough somewhere in West London.

I used DTD price when I bought my car, Progress Bedford got within £300 which I was happy with as there was also a PX involved

I used Palmers in Watford. They got within £200 or so of DTD, and threw in fuel and a plastic boot dish.

Excellent service (Jay) and introductions to the service team etc.

If you are prepared to go for petrol - faster, cheaper, lighter (better handling?), you may well considerably reduce your wait. Mine was 9 weeks or so!

Good luck with your purchase!

Quite a bizarre conclusion to this.

I was passing Central Skoda Birmingham & popped in on the off chance. I gave them the spec & the price and they eventually matched DTD

Paperwork completed & ordered.

So I can now collect from my local dealer

Thanks for all the advice.
